Overview
Join us as a Relationship Director – Emerging Markets Supranationals, Sovereigns and Agencies Sector Coverage (aka EM SSA) within Barclays International Corporate Banking. You will engage with senior leadership and Treasury teams at both the EM Sovereign ministries, SOEs, Development Banks & ECA agencies, to gain a holistic view of their financing requirements, identifying the products and solutions that most effectively meet their needs, negotiating on matters such as loan structuring & pricing.
The role will involve a rigorous focus on business development and client acquisition through industry presence – internal and external networking – while ensuring portfolio growth complements sector and group strategy. The successful candidate will ensure conformity with global and market standards of client service, product delivery and our operating model and they will make recommendations regarding the implementation of new products and services to meet the sectors evolving requirements.
Adherence to the Barclays’ Risk & Control agenda is of paramount importance, and the successful candidate must maintain all standards of compliance, risk management and market conduct.
To be successful in this role you will have
- Extensive client coverage experience, with a preference given to experience covering Sovereigns, Development Banks, Multilateral Financial Institutions and Supranational Banks.
- Technical knowledge including financial statement analysis, credit analysis, and experience in loan/trade origination and deal execution.
- Familiarity with Sovereign Debt Sustainability assessments and OECD Sustainable Lending Practices.
- Knowledge of corporate and investing banking products, services, and policies in order to prepare marketing materials, and pitch decks to drive origination activities.
- Extensive experience in transaction execution, managing deal teams, to ensure loan documentation and deal CPs are completed efficiently.
- Experience with highly regulated financial institutions & organisations, an appreciation for and sensitivity to risk, controls and governance as well as market conduct standards
- Excellent communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to navigate both internal and external stakeholders to influence outcomes.
- Credit risk management expertise – requirement to complete risk accreditation within 12 months of being in role, plus any other targeted learning or annual accreditations, and application of the skills to a high level on a daily basis.
The job holder will be required to undertake a significant number of visits to customers at their own premises requiring a high degree of mobility. The role is London based and the successful candidate must adhere to in office requirements (four days minimum on site per week).
Desirable skills
- Good awareness of Corporate & Investment Banking products & services, knowledge of profit drivers (income, RWAs, pricing, credit grading, etc.)
- Understanding of risks associated with ECA financing, and sovereign debt financing more broadly in Emerging Markets.
- Familiarity with the high-risk client management, e.g. enhanced due diligence relating to sovereign / SOE borrowers in Emerging Markets.
- Understand of Financial Institutions group-specific systems and processes, including Salesforce, Pricing models, risk models, etc.
You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.
This role is based in London.
This role is deemed as a Certified role under the PRA & UK Financial Conduct Authority – Individual Accountabilities Regulations and may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or the minimum qualifications to meet internal company benchmarks.
