The Opportunity:

Macdonald & Co. is proudly partnered with a privately held real estate investment and development firm headquartered in the North Carolina Triad to appoint a VP of Finance to their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a demonstrated interest in real estate investment and development to lead and take ownership of the firm's accounting, financial, human resources, capital markets, and back-office efficiencies. The VP of Finance will work directly with the firm's principals in establishing and championing processes that are fundamental to the firm's success over the coming years.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and forecasts for management, investors, and external stakeholders across the company's different entities.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing analysis of financial performance against budget and forecasts.
  • Provide financial leadership and guidance to senior management, offering insights and recommendations to optimize financial performance and drive business growth.
  • Assist the principals with investment due diligence and analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, capital investments, and operational improvements.
  • Develop, lead, and maintain financing conversations with construction lenders and equity investors.
  • Review loan documentation.
  • Create transaction analysis, summaries, and investment memorandums for recommendations to the Investment Committee.
  • Build and oversee KPI and KPM metrics to be widely adopted across the firm's different entities.
  • Provide debt information as requested and track interim property tests, guaranty burn-offs, loan extensions, and other information required to monitor the portfolio properly.
  • Stay current on industry trends, accounting standards, and best practices to continuously improve financial processes and reporting accuracy.
  • Manage and oversee day-to-day work of two Assistant Controllers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Real Estate related field (or other relevant degree, e.g., Economics, Mathematics) is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Real Estate Finance or Accounting, preferably within banking, private equity, or real estate investment and development is required.
  • CPA qualification is required.
  • Additional CFA qualification is preferred.
  • Management experience of accounting and finance staff is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of real estate investment concepts and analysis is required.
  • Experience working with banks and equity investors in real estate is preferred.
  • Experience with construction lending is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Unquestionable integrity and ethics.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications (especially Excel).
  • This is an on-site opportunity and will require a candidate to be able to commute to the group’s office in the Triad, North Carolina 4-days a week.
