Our Client

The Role

This role will take ownership of the commercial finance function for lending operations, covering both partner-funded and internally funded products. You will partner closely with senior leadership to drive budgeting, forecasting, and performance insight, acting as the key finance voice to the business.

The position requires a strong commercial mindset, deep understanding of lending economics, and the ability to translate complex loan portfolio data into clear, actionable insight.

Key Responsibilities

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Own the annual budget process across lending portfolios (origination volumes, revenue, provisions, and operating costs)
  • Build and maintain long-term (3–5 year) financial models, including portfolio growth, funding mix, and profitability trajectory
  • Lead monthly rolling forecasts, updating assumptions based on performance trends
  • Deliver scenario modelling and stress testing, assessing the impact of growth strategies, pricing, and funding structures

Performance Tracking & Analysis

  • Develop and manage weekly and monthly performance reporting, including origination volumes, default rates, approval rates, and margins
  • Lead variance analysis, identifying key drivers of performance and providing clear commercial recommendations
  • Monitor portfolio performance trends (cohorts, delinquency, roll rates) and highlight early risk indicators
  • Evaluate performance across different funding models and partner structures

P&L Ownership & Financial Governance

  • Own the end-to-end commercial P&L narrative for the lending function
  • Partner with accounting and control teams to ensure reported numbers reflect underlying business performance
  • Review and challenge key cost lines, including provisioning and operational expenses, ensuring alignment with commercial reality
  • Validate financial data, identify inconsistencies, and resolve discrepancies with central finance teams

Strategic Business Partnering

  • Act as a trusted partner to senior lending leadership, supporting decision-making and growth strategy
  • Translate strategic initiatives into financial implications and investment cases
  • Challenge assumptions around growth targets, portfolio quality, and profitability
  • Support business case development for new markets, products, and partnerships

Unit Economics & Commercial Modelling

  • Build and maintain detailed unit economics models across lending products and partnerships
  • Assess profitability across different funding structures and scaling scenarios
  • Support partner evaluations and commercial negotiations through financial modelling and sensitivity analysis

Data & Reporting

  • Drive improvements in reporting infrastructure and automation, moving away from manual processes
  • Support development of centralised dashboards and financial reporting tools
  • Ensure consistent KPI definitions and data quality across markets and products

Requirements

  • 4+ years’ experience in FP&A, commercial finance, or business partnering, ideally within financial services, fintech, or lending
  • Strong understanding of lending economics (origination, interest income, defaults, margins, provisions) preferred
  • Advanced Excel/modelling skills with experience working from first principles
  • Proven ability to own budgets and forecasts, including long-term planning
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into commercial insight
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams (e.g. product, risk, operations)
  • Confident engaging and challenging senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present to non-finance audiences

Desirable requirements

  • Experience in credit risk concepts (e.g. provisioning, default modelling)
  • Exposure to partnership or revenue-share models
  • Experience working in high-growth or international environments
  • Additional languages (e.g. Spanish or Portuguese)

Why Apply

  • Salary: £85,000 – £95,000 (flexible depending on experience)
