Acclime is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our team and support the delivery of high‑quality bookkeeping and financial support services to a diverse client base. This role is hands‑on and client‑facing, with responsibility for overseeing day‑to‑day bookkeeping, supporting junior and offshore team members, and assisting with the preparation and accuracy of financial information used in management and statutory reporting.

The Senior Bookkeeper plays a critical role in ensuring that client records are accurate, up to date, and compliant, enabling senior accountants and managers to prepare financial statements and tax returns efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Workflow Management

  • Manage a portfolio of bookkeeping clients across a range of industries.
  • Act as a key point of contact for bookkeeping‑related client queries.
  • Proactively identify issues within client records and escalate where required.
  • Ensure work is delivered accurately on time, and in line with agreed service standards.

Bookkeeping & Financial Support

  • End‑to‑end bookkeeping including:
  • Accounts payable and receivable
  • Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Payroll processing, including STP
  • Superannuation, payroll tax and WorkCover processing
  • Month‑end journals and adjustments
  • Prepare and review activity statements (BAS/IAS).
  • Prepare monthly and ad‑hoc management reports.
  • Assist senior accountants and managers with:
  • Month‑end and year‑end processes
  • Preparation of accurate workpapers and reconciliations
  • Ensuring financial data is complete and reliable for financial statement preparation

Review & Quality Control

  • Review bookkeeping work prepared by junior and offshore team members.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and adherence to internal processes and best‑practice standards.
  • Identify inefficiencies or errors and recommend improvements.

Team Support & Training

  • Provide guidance, training and day‑to‑day support to junior bookkeepers and offshore teams.
  • Assist with onboarding and upskilling of team members.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of bookkeeping procedures and documentation.

Compliance & Lodgements

  • Oversee accurate and timely lodgement of compliance obligations, including:
  • Activity Statements
  • Payroll tax
  • WorkCover
  • Single Touch Payroll
  • Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR)

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Assist with implementing and maintaining best‑practice bookkeeping processes.
  • Support clients with system setup, clean‑ups and process improvements.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of bookkeeping systems and related software.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a senior bookkeeping role.
  • Relevant bookkeeping qualification (e.g. Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or equivalent practical experience).
  • Strong experience using Xero and related apps.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Solid understanding of Australian bookkeeping and payroll requirements, including BAS, STP, superannuation, payroll tax and WorkCover.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage competing deadlines.
  • Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal).

Desirable

  • BAS Agent registration or eligibility.
  • Experience reviewing and supervising the work of other bookkeepers.
  • Experience working with offshore teams.
  • Exposure to multiple industries and complex client structures.
