The Role

The General Manager will plan, coordinate, and manage business operations to satisfy the established goals of the company. The General Manager is also responsible for managing and improving current processes and procedures, design strategies, and optimizing expenses to facilitate the projected growth of the company.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Accountability

  • Operates with the highest level of integrity while modeling Hermanson's purpose, values, culture, and commitment to exceptional customer service.
  • Provides strategic leadership and overall direction for the ODS – Oregon, ensuring the organization is properly structured, positioned, and resourced to deliver exceptional results.
  • Builds and maintains a reputation for excellence through strong customer relationships, industry engagement, and leadership presence.
  • Maintains ultimate accountability for ODS – Oregon performance, including:

Strategic Business Planning & Market Leadership

  • Under the direction of the Director of ODS, develop, maintain, and execute a rolling three-year strategic business plan for assigned markets and customer segments.
  • Identify market opportunities, customer needs, and available revenue across Owner Direct Projects, Special Projects, Service and Maintenance under $10M in value.
  • Establish annual revenue, profitability, and growth objectives aligned with company goals.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with key clients, decision-makers, general contractors, owners, and industry influencers.
  • Develop and implement strategies that strengthen Hermanson's market position and reputation as an industry leader.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop programs, campaigns, and materials that support strategic growth initiatives and market objectives.

Business Development, Sales & Client Relationships

  • Establish pursuit strategies and provide leadership for all significant project opportunities.
  • Direct proposal development, presentation strategy, and customer engagement efforts.
  • Determine project scope, system concepts, equipment selections, and subcontractor strategies required to support successful pursuits.
  • Maintain customer advocacy and satisfaction throughout construction and project delivery.

Business Unit Operations & Financial Performance

  • Continuously assess organizational capacity, capabilities, and resource requirements to support current and future project demands.
  • Lead forecasting, planning, and deployment of internal and external resources to maximize operational effectiveness.
  • Drive accountability through:
    • Strategic planning
    • Organizational alignment
    • Performance measurement
    • Execution management
    • Continuous improvement
    • Real-time reporting and responsiveness
  • Lead and manage Owner Direct Projects, Special Projects, and Service while helping shape strategy across all delivery methods within the Business Unit.
  • Deliver revenue, profitability, and project margin performance consistent with Business Unit objectives and executive expectations.

Talent Development & Organizational Growth

  • Build organizational stability, continuity, and succession plans that support long-term Business Unit success.
  • Recruit, mentor, coach, and develop employees while fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and high performance.
  • Identify and implement employee development programs aligned with Business Unit goals.
  • Develop future leaders and strengthen organizational capabilities through ongoing mentoring and leadership development.
  • Promote collaboration and alignment across all departments to ensure successful customer outcomes.

Safety, Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Champion safety as a core value and ensure compliance with all Hermanson safety policies and procedures.
  • Partner with the Safety Director and Construction Executive (future role in Oregon) to maintain safe working environments and communicate effectively with clients regarding jobsite incidents when necessary.
  • Work with Corporate Support teams to identify and secure the resources, systems, and services necessary to support Business Unit performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness, customer experience, and financial performance.

Physical Requirements

  • Participate in site visits and project evaluations, requiring the ability to:
  • Walk on uneven, muddy, icy, or rough terrain
  • Climb stairs and ladders
  • Work safely at heights
  • Maintain balance and mobility in active construction environments

  • Hold monthly 1 to1’s with direct reports

The salary range for this position is $140,000.00 to $160,000.00 (The compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience).

Education

  • University/College degree in management or a related field is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in the mechanical field
  • 7 years of successful management experience of groups exceeding 5 direct reports
