About Ai&
ai& is a new global AI technology company dedicated to meeting the world's growing demand for AI. Our vision is twofold: to serve as a premier AI lab specializing in localization, and to act as a global infrastructure and compute provider. We are building a unified, optimized global platform that integrates next-generation data centers and infrastructure, heterogeneous compute serving, and advanced model services. We believe that the most effective way to build and scale AI is to own the stack from top to bottom.
At ai&, we empower small teams with the autonomy needed to tackle significant challenges. Our approach is to deconstruct large problems into manageable components and solve complex issues collaboratively. We seek highly motivated, mission-driven individuals who demonstrate strong personal agency. We value curiosity as the foundation of talent, and we are looking for people eager to develop alongside our evolving technology and expanding business.
We are actively hiring worldwide, with presence in Tokyo, SF, Austin, and Toronto. We are more than happy to meet exceptional talent where they are.
Role Overview
As Finance Controller at ai&, you own the financial close, the books, and the cash. You are the person who ensures our numbers are accurate, our close happens on time, and our cash position is always known. You will work closely with our external accounting partners and directly with leadership to maintain the financial integrity of a fast-moving, capital-intensive global company.
We are building significant physical infrastructure across multiple markets. The financial complexity that comes with that — multi-entity structures, intercompany flows, CapEx accounting, and multi-currency treasury — is your domain. You will also contribute to near-term financial planning, helping leadership understand the cash and cost implications of infrastructure decisions before they are made. You prefer doing over delegating and you take personal pride in clean books.
Responsibilities
- Monthly Close Own the monthly close process end to end. Coordinate with external accounting firms and bookkeepers to ensure accurate, timely closes across Japan and global entities. The close happens on time, every time.
- Cash Management Own the cash position of the company. Monitor daily cash balances, manage liquidity across entities, and ensure leadership always has an accurate picture of where cash sits and where it is going.
- Controllership & Accuracy Maintain the integrity of the books across all entities. Ensure every transaction is recorded correctly, every account is reconciled, and every discrepancy is caught and resolved quickly.
- Multi-Entity & Intercompany Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations across ai&'s global entities. Ensure intercompany flows are clean, documented, and correctly reflected in each entity's books.
- Treasury & FX Manage banking relationships and day-to-day treasury operations. Execute FX conversions and monitor exposure across JPY, USD, and other currencies.
- Statutory Reporting & Compliance Ensure accurate and timely statutory reporting across Japan and international entities. Coordinate with external advisors to meet all filing deadlines and regulatory requirements.
- Financial Planning Support Partner with leadership on near-term financial planning. Translate cash flow, infrastructure costs, and CapEx commitments into clear, forward-looking visibility that supports good decision-making.
You may be a fit if you have the following skills
- Close & Controllership Experience You have owned the monthly close at a multi-entity company. Your closes are accurate, timely, and you do not let reconciling items age.
- Cash Management Fluency You know where the cash is at all times. You have managed treasury operations across multiple currencies and you are comfortable with the day-to-day mechanics of global cash management.
- Multi-Entity Accounting Experience managing the books across multiple legal entities including intercompany transactions, eliminations, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Japan Accounting Knowledge Familiarity with Japanese accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements. Experience working with Japanese bookkeepers and accounting firms is a strong signal.
- Bilingual Fluency Professional fluency in Japanese and English is required.
- Execution Over Delegation You prefer doing over directing. You are in the details, you know the numbers, and you hold yourself to a high standard of accuracy.
- Great Team Spirit A mission-driven approach to operations, valuing clear communication, hands-on execution, and collective success over individual silos.
