The Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Finance who can operate as a true strategic leader and partner to the CEO — not just a technical accountant. This is a high-visibility leadership role for someone equally comfortable presenting to a board as they are improving financial systems and processes behind the scenes.
The successful candidate will oversee the finance function end-to-end, while helping modernize reporting, strengthen controls, and build scalable systems to support future growth. This role is ideal for a finance leader who embraces technology and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency, strengthen forecasting, and support better decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare financial reporting packages and KPI dashboards for leadership and governance purposes
• Budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and long-range planning
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with regulatory and funder requirements
• Oversee external audit (review engagement) and tax processes
• Quarterly stakeholder reporting including bank covenants and supporting materials for partner updates
Strategic Partnership
• Advise senior leadership on financial performance, operational efficiency, and risk management
• Identify opportunities to improve systems, reporting, and organizational scalability
• Support strategic initiatives, growth planning, and operational decision-making
Technology & Process Improvement
• Champion automation, AI tools, and finance technology improvements
• Optimize finance systems and reporting workflows
• Build scalable processes that reduce manual effort and improve visibility
People & Operations
• Lead and mentor finance support staff and external partners
• Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and related systems interfaces
• Establish documentation and processes that improve continuity and reduce key-person dependency
Qualifications
• CPA designation or relevant senior finance experience
• Progressive finance leadership experience, including CFO, CEO and/or board-facing responsibilities
• Strong financial reporting, forecasting, and operational finance capabilities
• Experience implementing automation, AI, or process-improvement initiatives within finance
• Experience with cloud-based accounting systems
• Human services, healthcare, or government-funded sector experience is considered an asset
