Country Head – Logistics & Shipping (Vietnam)
Overview
Our client is looking for an experienced Country Head to lead its Vietnam operations, driving both operational excellence and commercial growth. This role will oversee end-to-end logistics and shipping activities, while ensuring alignment with regional and global strategies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Country Operations & Setup
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Vietnam business, including legal, administrative, commercial, and operational functions.
- Oversee carrier-related activities such as vessel coordination, cargo release, and container management.
- Ensure efficient handling of import and export flows for both empty and laden shipments.
- Establish and maintain relationships with ports, terminals, depots, and local authorities.
- Optimize operational systems, including booking and shipment processes.
- Drive contract negotiations and finalize agreements with key partners.
2. Commercial Strategy & Business Growth
- Develop and execute strategies to expand market presence in Vietnam and the region.
- Grow and manage key trade lanes, identifying new business opportunities.
- Conduct market analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, and partners.
- Oversee forwarding-related services including air freight, trucking, warehousing, and customs clearance.
- Provide regular updates on business performance and market developments.
3. Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop the local team to achieve business targets and operational KPIs.
- Implement performance management frameworks and support employee development.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
4. Financial Oversight & Compliance
- Manage budgeting, cost control, and financial performance of the Vietnam entity.
- Monitor profitability across logistics and shipping operations.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting, including monthly statements.
- Oversee compliance with local tax regulations and internal policies.
5. Regional & Global Alignment
- Collaborate closely with headquarters and regional stakeholders across functions.
- Contribute to the development of integrated logistics solutions tailored to the Vietnam market.
- Act as the key representative bridging local operations and global direction.
Requirements
Freight Forwarding
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in freight forwarding across multimodal transport (FCL, LCL, air, trucking, rail, feeder).
- Strong understanding of operational workflows, commercial models, and market practices.
- Established network across customers, carriers, and vendors in Vietnam / Southeast Asia.
- Hands-on experience managing full-cycle shipments.
Liner Shipping
- Solid experience from a carrier-side perspective.
- Strong knowledge of container shipping operations and equipment control.
- Experience working with terminals, agents, and depots.
- Ability to develop and optimize shipping services and feeder networks.
Commercial & Market Expertise
- Strong understanding of Southeast Asia trade lanes and competitive landscape.
- Proven track record in developing and scaling logistics or shipping business.
Russia Trade Lane (Preferred)
- Familiarity with logistics flows and regulatory environment related to Russia-bound shipments.
- Ability to navigate operational constraints and identify alternative solutions.
Stakeholder Management
- Experience working in multinational environments.
- Strong collaboration skills across regional teams and cultures.
Languages
- Fluent Vietnamese and English.
- Russian is an advantage.
