Summary
Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Corporate Controller be responsible for the integrity and accuracy of all financial records across our operations. This role owns the full accounting function — from transactional processing through consolidated financial reporting — while ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax obligations, and internal controls in both jurisdictions. This role is based in Calgary, AB.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
Financial Close & Consolidated Reporting
Own and manage the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process for all entities
Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS (Canada), including intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation (CAD/USD)
Deliver accurate and timely financial packages to the VP of Finance, executive team, and Board of Directors
Maintain and continuously improve the close calendar, targeting cycle-time reduction without sacrificing accuracy
Technical Accounting & Compliance
Serve as the technical accounting authority for the organization, researching and documenting positions on complex or non-routine transactions
Ensure compliance with relevant standards including IFRS 16 (leases), IAS 2 (inventory), and other applicable pronouncements
Oversee revenue recognition policies and ensure alignment with IFRS 15
Manage transfer pricing documentation and intercompany accounting between Canadian and US entities
Stay current on evolving accounting standards and proactively communicate impacts to leadership
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
Oversee standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation across manufacturing facilities
Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure accurate cost accounting for raw materials (including lithium, electrolytes, separators, and related inputs), work-in-process, and finished goods
Lead periodic physical inventory counts and cycle count programs; investigate and resolve material variances
Maintain fixed asset subledger, including capitalization policies, depreciation schedules, and asset impairment assessments
Systems, Processes & Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team across Canadian and US locations, building a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Drive ERP optimization and process automation initiatives to improve efficiency and data quality
Partner with the FP&A function to ensure alignment between actuals and forecast/budget reporting
Support finance systems implementations, upgrades, or integrations as the company scales
Qualifications & Compentencies
CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA, or US CPA) — mandatory
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role
Deep expertise in IFRS and US GAAP, with demonstrated experience applying both in a multi-entity environment
Strong manufacturing accounting background, including standard costing, inventory management, and plant-level accounting
Proven experience managing cross-border (Canada/US) accounting, including intercompany transactions and multi-currency consolidation
Experience managing external audits for mid-to-large-size organizations
Proficiency in ERP systems
Strong Excel skills; familiarity with BI and reporting tools
Experience in battery, EV, cleantech, advanced manufacturing, or similar capital-intensive industries
Familiarity with government grant accounting, investment tax credits, and SR&ED (Scientific Research & Experimental Development) programs in Canada
Experience with SOX compliance or building SOX-ready control environments
Public accounting background (Big 4 or mid-tier firm) is a strong asset
