Business Unit Controller / (Operational Accounting Focus)

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and hands-on Business Unit Controller / Senior Accountant to support operational accounting and financial oversight at the business unit level. This role will be responsible for owning key aspects of the close process, performing deep balance sheet analysis, and partnering closely with operations to drive financial visibility, accuracy, and accountability.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience in operational accounting, intercompany transactions, and financial statement analysis, with the ability to dive into details while also communicating insights effectively to non-finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Perform deep-dive balance sheet analysis, identifying discrepancies, aging issues, and opportunities for cleanup
  • Own and manage intercompany accounting, including reconciliations, eliminations, and resolution of variances
  • Conduct thorough P&L and balance sheet reviews, ensuring financial results align with operational activity
  • Identify and clean up misclassified or aged line items, improving overall financial integrity
  • Partner closely with operations teams to review business performance, explain financial results, and drive accountability
  • Support business unit-level financial reviews, providing insights into trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP
  • Assist in process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in financial reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
  • 5–10+ years of accounting experience, with strong exposure to operational or business unit accounting
  • Proven experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement analysis
  • Solid understanding of intercompany transactions and eliminations
  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret balance sheet and P&L activity at a detailed level
  • Experience working cross-functionally with operations or non-finance stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • High attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems preferred
