Description
IIF is seeking a Deputy Director to help lead its work in Digital Finance. This role will play a critical part in shaping industry positions on emerging technologies such as digital assets and tokenization, AI and machine learning, quantum computing, data policy, decentralized finance (DeFi), payments/cross-border payments, and digital identify. A key function of this role will be to engage with regulators, supervisors, and policymakers globally. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in regulatory policy related to financial technology and experience with public-sector engagement (including regulatory hearings on Capitol Hill and with government agencies such as the SEC, Federal Reserve, or Treasury in the U.S. and with global bodies such as the FSB, BIS, OECD, IOSCO).
Key Responsibilities Include:
Analyze regulatory proposals from global standard-setting bodies and national regulators (e.g., Basel Committee, European Commission, EBA and ESMA, UK PRA and FCA, US SEC and CFTC, Federal Reserve, OCC, OSFI, JFSA, MAS, ASIC, and numerous others globally).
Draft consultation responses, policy papers, background documents, and notes for high-level engagements.
Represent IIF members’ views in regulatory discussions and attend public hearings and high-level briefings.
Advance research projects and policy analysis on these and other important topics:
Financial stability implications of blockchain, crypto, DeFi, AI, and big tech platforms.
Regulatory sandboxes, innovation hubs, and public-sector approaches to fintech.
Trends in data policy, digital ID, and cross-border data flows.
Coordinate and lead meetings of working groups and task forces focused on fintech and data governance.
Manage meeting logistics and communication, ensuring participation from key stakeholders across sectors.
Prepare agendas, summaries, and policy deliverables that reflect group input and align with IIF advocacy goals.
Provide ad hoc regulatory guidance to IIF member firms.
Collaborate across departments on cross-cutting issues.
Requirements:
Advanced degree in law, public policy, finance, economics, or related field.
At least 8 years of experience in a financial regulatory body (e.g., SEC, CFTC, FCA, Federal Reserve, Treasury, etc.) or relevant financial industry policy role.
Strong writing and communication skills, with experience drafting policy briefs, testimony, and/or government engagement materials.
Demonstrated understanding of digital finance, fintech policy, and the evolving global regulatory landscape.
Experience with government hearings, legislative affairs, or public-private dialogue.
Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington, DC area.
Work Environment
IIF is pleased to provide its staff with a hybrid work environment: staff members are currently required to work in the office in Washington, DC, Tuesdays through Thursdays but have the option of working remotely on Mondays and Fridays
