Tax Specialist Jobs in Toronto, Canada at International Financial Group

Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking a Tax Specialist for a 6-month contract with strong potential for extension.

This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days per week in office, with occasional additional on-site days as needed. This role supports high-value Estate, Trust, and terminal tax filings and offers exposure to specialized post-mortem tax planning.

Responsibilities

  • Collect required information from clients and internal/external sources to prepare complex income tax returns.
  • Prepare and file T1 personal, terminal returns, GREs, T3 Trust and Estate returns, including rights or things.
  • Perform calculations, complete tax schedules, and organize documentation for complex filings.
  • Identify post-mortem and tax planning opportunities and act as a technical resource to the Estate & Trust Advisory team.
  • Review assessment notices and prepare adjustment requests, objections, and clearance certificate applications.

Must-Have Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in an accounting or tax-related role.
  • Strong experience with T1 preparation, including Terminal (Final) T1 returns.
  • Hands-on experience with T3 Trust & Estate returns.
  • Working knowledge of Graduated Rate Estates (GREs).
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Proficiency with Tax Prep or similar tax preparation software.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA.
  • Experience in Estate & Trust tax planning and post-mortem strategies.
