Finance/Nutrition Assistant Job Description
Position: Finance/Nutrition Assistant
Reports To: Finance Director
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Benefits: Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) and NC State Health Plan
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Week Schedule: Monday – Friday
Work Hours: 7:45AM – 4:00PM; occasional evenings and weekends
Employment Term: 10 months
Position Purpose
The Finance Assistant performs a variety of duties that include aspects of the finance, human resources, and school nutrition programs within the school. The employee must demonstrate exceptional customer service and communicate with a wide variety of groups including students, parents, educators, community members, governmental agencies, and institutions of higher education. Work at this level requires a working knowledge of financial accounting procedures and regulations, generally accepted accounting practices for governmental agencies, and the functionality of LINQ financial software in order to support school operations with a high degree of accuracy. The Assistant also maintains personnel records, which requires a sound knowledge of and commitment to confidentiality. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, dynamic self-starter with previous experience at the school and district level and a willingness to devote substantial time to build a world class model for the future of STEM education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Accounting
Maintains a highly accurate accounting system in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards, including an adequate system of internal controls.
Generates requisitions and purchase orders, verifies invoices against purchase orders, and processes invoices for payment.
Processes deposits by appropriately coding all incoming cash, checks, and electronic payments.
School Nutrition
Participates in the free and reduced price meal applications and collections procedures process.
Maintains student lunch accounts using school-approved software, reconciles accounts, and generates invoices for payment.
Maintains inventory.
Human Resources
Manages all check requests and travel/leave forms, ensuring the proper documentation is submitted.
Assists in maintaining employee records, including data such as sick leave, annual leave, days worked, days paid, and Continuing Education Units earned.
Advises, supports, and assists school personnel with employment processes and procedures.
Other
Performs other duties and responsibilities, as requested by the CEO.
Prepares and submits accurate and timely reports to state and federal agencies, grantees, and other stakeholders in accordance with established guidelines to ensure program compliance.
Carries out all assigned responsibilities in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and applicable rules and regulations.

Physical ability (able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Education, Training, Experience
Graduation from high school and any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to fully execute the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field preferred, but not required.
Previous work experience in public school bookkeeping/accounting preferred, but not required.
