We operate showrooms in New York City and Miami’s Wynwood district and are actively growing our South Florida business.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Part-Time Senior Controller to own the financial operations, reporting, and compliance for our Florida (Miami) business. This senior-level role will partner closely with the Managing Director – South Florida and report to the company CFO, delivering accurate financial insights, strong internal controls, and strategic recommendations that support profitable growth in South Florida.
This is a fully remote (Work From Home) part-time role offering significant flexibility. We are open to both part-time W-2 employment and fractional/consulting arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and close processes for Florida operations.
- Deliver timely and accurate P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting for the Miami showroom and South Florida projects to local leadership and HQ.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (project margins, sales performance, overhead efficiency, etc.) and provide clear variance analysis and forward-looking insights.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Support
- Own the budgeting and forecasting process for Florida operations in collaboration with the Managing Director – South Florida.
- Analyze project and client profitability and support pricing, proposals, and margin improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and scalable financial processes as the Florida business grows.
Accounting Operations & Controls
- Oversee core accounting functions for Florida operations (AP, AR, billing, collections, reconciliations, and journal entries).
- Ensure proper revenue recognition for furniture sales and projects, including deposits, progress billing, delivery milestones, and change orders.
- Maintain strong internal controls and oversee or direct any local bookkeeping support.
Compliance & Tax
- Manage Florida sales tax, use tax, and other state/local compliance requirements (especially important for a furniture dealership).
- Handle sales tax collection, exemption certificates, and timely filings.
- Support external audits and coordinate with the company CFO and external accountants as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary financial liaison between Miami operations and the NYC-based CFO and leadership team.
- Partner closely with the Managing Director – South Florida and project/sales teams on the financial aspects of client projects.
- Communicate proactively and effectively in a remote environment using video, shared tools, and clear written updates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred).
- 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3–5 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
- Strong experience owning full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a business unit or multi-location operation.
- Solid knowledge of GAAP and experience with project-based or inventory/revenue recognition accounting.
- Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar).
- Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to translate financial information for non-finance stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work effectively and independently in a fully remote environment with strong written and verbal communication.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in contract furniture, commercial interiors, design services, or project-based businesses.
- Direct experience with Florida sales tax compliance.
- Prior success working remotely while supporting field or multi-location operations.
Position Details
- Type: Part-time (approximately 15–25 hours per week). Schedule is flexible but must support timely month-end closes and key deadlines.
- Location: Fully remote (Work From Home). Candidates located anywhere in the United States are welcome. Occasional travel to Miami (estimated 2–4 times per year) may be required for team alignment, major projects, or onboarding.
- Reports to: Chief Financial Officer, with close collaboration with the Managing Director – South Florida.
- Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience. Open to salaried part-time or hourly/fractional structures.
