Role Description
This is a full-time on-site Senior Accountant role located in Houston, TX at Mas Mex. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day financial tasks including managing accounts, preparing financial statements, conducting financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Perform detailed analysis of financial results and variance analysis to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
Prepare journal entries for accruals, prepaids, and other adjustments as necessary.
Oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, providing analysis on variances and recommending adjustments as needed.
Maintain and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring all supporting documentation is provided and any audit findings are addressed.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory requirements.
Work with the Controller and to maintain and enhance accounting systems and software (e.g., QuickBooks, restaurant POS systems).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
At least 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience
Strong experience in financial reporting, general ledger management, month-end close, and accounting systems (preferably QuickBooks or similar accounting software).
Experience with restaurant-specific accounting practices, including food cost tracking, labor costs, and multi-location consolidations.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and industry-specific accounting practices.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and make actionable recommendations.
