Role Description The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing a portfolio of individual and business clients. Day-to-day tasks include preparing and reviewing financial statements, tax returns, BAS, and compliance reports, as well as providing tax planning and business advisory services. The role involves liaising directly with clients, interpreting complex tax legislation, and identifying opportunities for tax efficiencies, including income averaging where applicable.

The Senior Accountant will oversee work performed by junior team members, ensure accurate and timely completion of engagements, and contribute to process improvements within the firm. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering proactive, high-quality service. There is opportunity to step into a management position as the practice is growing.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical skills in financial accounting, tax compliance, and preparation of financial statements and returns.
  • Experience providing business advisory services, including tax planning and structuring for individuals and businesses.
  • Ability to interpret and apply current Australian tax legislation, with experience in complex areas such as income averaging.
  • Proficiency with accounting and tax software, and solid Excel skills for analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to manage client relationships and explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and supervise work of junior staff and contribute to team development.
  • Relevant accounting qualifications (e.g., degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance); CA or CPA qualification, or working towards it, strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in public practice or a similar professional services environment; exposure to entertainment or sports industries is an advantage (ideally 5 – 8 years at a minimum).
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple deadlines, and a proactive, ethical approach to client service.
  • Experience with Xero Tax and XPM is highly regarded
