We are currently expanding our Leanpay Romania team and looking for an experienced Risk Manager located in Bucharest, to join our management team. The main task of the Risk Manager at Leanpay NBFI is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring and managing – in an integrated manner – all categories of risk to which the institution is exposed: credit risk, operational risk, financial risk (including IFRS 9 classification of the credit portfolio), liquidity risk, compliance risk and other relevant risks. The role holder actively contributes to protecting the institution's capital, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and supporting the sustainability of the business model.

What will the Risk Manager be doing?

Credit Risk

  • Developing and updating credit policies and procedures in line with NBR requirements and applicable legislation for NBFIs;
  • Monitoring the credit risk appetite approved by the Board;
  • Analyzing the credit portfolio quality: monitoring NPL ratios, provision coverage, and sector/client concentration;
  • Defining and overseeing creditworthiness assessment methodologies;
  • Monitoring large exposures and concentration risk;
  • Periodic reporting of credit risk to management and regulatory authorities (NBR).

Financial Risk – IFRS 9 Classification and Provisions

  • Coordinating the classification process of loans in the portfolio in accordance with IFRS 9 (Stage 1, 2, 3);
  • Supervising the ECL (Expected Credit Loss) calculation methodology – PD, LGD, EAD models;
  • Collaborating with the finance and accounting department to calculate and record credit risk provisions;
  • Ensuring consistency between management data and IFRS reporting;
  • Monitoring Significant Increases in Credit Risk (SICR) and updating stage transfer criteria;
  • Participating in the recognition and derecognition process of financial assets in accordance with IFRS 9;
  • Preparing documentation for external auditors and the NBR regarding the IFRS 9 methodology.

Operational Risk

  • Implementing the operational risk management framework (identification, assessment, monitoring, reporting);
  • Maintaining and updating the Operational Risk Register;
  • Coordinating the operational incident and loss collection process;
  • Conducting RCSA (Risk and Control Self-Assessment) exercises together with business units;
  • Monitoring operational Key Risk Indicators (KRIs);
  • Assessing risks associated with IT systems, internal processes, human factors and external events;
  • Managing Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and their periodic testing.

Other Risks Managed at the NBFI Level

  • Liquidity risk: monitoring liquidity gaps and LCR/NSFR ratios adapted to the NBFI framework; periodic reporting;
  • Market risk: monitoring exposures to interest rates and FX rate fluctuations; portfolio sensitivity analysis;
  • Compliance risk: collaborating with the compliance function to ensure adherence to NBR regulations, GDPR, and AML/CTF requirements;
  • Reputational risk: identifying and reporting events with potential reputational impact;
  • Strategic risk: contributing to the risk analysis of strategic decisions and new products.

Governance, Reporting and Regulation

  • Preparing periodic risk reports for the Risk Committee, Board of Directors and the NBR;
  • Actively participating in Risk Committee and Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO) meetings;
  • Ensuring compliance with NBR regulations applicable to NBFIs (NBR Regulation No. 20/2009 and subsequent amendments);
  • Collaborating with internal and external audit to provide requested information and documentation;
  • Implementing recommendations resulting from NBR inspections and internal audits.

What will the successful candidate have?

Education and Certifications

  • University degree in relevant fields: Finance-Banking, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent;
  • Professional certifications are a plus: FRM (Financial Risk Manager), PRM (Professional Risk Manager), CFA, ACCA;
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS standards, particularly IFRS 9.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in risk management within the financial-banking sector or an NBFI;
  • Proven experience in at least two risk areas: credit, operational, or financial/IFRS;
  • Experience in interacting with the NBR and in regulatory reporting represents a significant advantage;
  • Experience in implementing or using ECL (IFRS 9) models is mandatory.

Technical Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS 9: financial asset classification, ECL calculation, SICR;
  • Familiarity with credit risk methodologies: PD, LGD, EAD, scoring, internal rating;
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework applicable to NBFIs in Romania (NBR legislation, prudential rules);
  • Advanced analytical skills: Excel (advanced), SQL, statistical modeling knowledge;
  • Experience with core banking systems or risk reporting systems (a plus).
