We are hiring two (2) Revenue Audit Supervisors for our Income Tax Discovery Section located in Springfield, IL. In this position you will supervise and review the activities of Revenue Auditors, providing guidance, instruction and resolution when needed.

Essential Functions
- Plan, assign, supervise and review the activities of a staff of Auditors engaged in performing field audits of Illinois and/or out-of-state taxpayers subject to one or more taxes administered by the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR).
- Interpret and explain the proper application of income tax laws, rules, regulations and opinions.
- Act as the working supervisor.
- Make pre‑audit evaluations to establish suitability of case to Auditor skill level, scope and procedures to be employed.
- Travel to taxpayer’s place of business to conduct post‑audit conferences, explain audit findings predicated on applicable tax laws, rules, regulations, court decisions and precedents.
- Communicate by telephone or in person with taxpayers and/or their representatives to resolve technical or controversial tax issues.
- Consult with manager to provide status of ongoing audits or obtain guidance in resolving controversial or complex legal/technical tax problems.
- Review and approve completed computerized audit reports.
- Provide continuous communication and feedback to staff regarding performance, completing timely reviews and annual evaluations which reflect the employee’s accomplishments and contributions.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Path A:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree.
- Requires successful completion of fifteen semester hours of academically progressive coursework in accounting, including at least two introductory accounting courses, two intermediate accounting courses, and one course in taxation or audit.
- Requires two years professional experience as a Revenue Auditor III.
- Path B:
- Requires a bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or a Certified Public Accountant certification.
- Requires two years professional experience as a Revenue Auditor III.
Specialized Skills
- Requires four years of experience working with Income Tax auditing processes and utilizing Gen Tax for audit purposes.
- Requires two years of experience in a coach and/or mentor role as a Revenue Auditor III.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four years of experience working with Income Tax auditing processes, interpreting and explaining income tax laws, rules, regulations, legal opinions, etc.
- Four years of experience using Gen Tax or similar tax processing system for audit purposes.
- Two years of experience working as a lead/advanced auditor in a coach/mentor role to lower-level auditors in an organization.
Conditions of Employment
- Ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
- Ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate; requires a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to use and secure a state‑issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet.
- This position is considered heavy work: lifting no more than 100 lb at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lb.
- Applicable revolving‑door restrictions and requirements for filing a Statement of Economic Interest as set out in Illinois law apply to this position.
