Overview
The Portfolio Manager is a key member of the “coverage team,” managing transactions and business portfolio tasks. PMs are expected to be intimately involved in the deal process, making recommendations on appropriate credit structures, pricing, and more. They are directly accountable for managing a portfolio of accounts through review of updated financial statements, proactive monitoring, and interaction with the Credit Analyst, ensuring risk is managed and policies are followed.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for managing a portfolio of accounts.
- Review and recommend credit decisions.
- Meet with clients and participate in business development calls as part of the coverage team.
- Assess prospective client viability for credit and define borrowers, guarantors, deal structure, credit terms and conditions, financial covenants, collateral value.
- Generate commitment letters.
- Provide business partners with credit lending policy interpretation and perform final risk rating analysis.
- Capture and document credit decisions, conditions, and modifications.
- Collaborate with the Credit Analyst to establish and maintain an Investor Group on the lender portal, perform monitoring actions, conduct periodic deal reviews, and execute decisions to renew or modify deals.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding credit events and actions as needed.
- Work independently to pitch the most complex deal structures.
- Mentor junior PMs and Credit Analysts, providing subject‑matter expertise and insights into the Bank’s business lines.
- Provide employees timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback and support their career growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting).
- At least 8 years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience in Commercial Banking, preferably including Insurance, Payments, and/or Non‑Bank Finance companies.
- Highly proficient analytical skills, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Professional client‑facing presence and experience managing an advanced commercial client portfolio with significant complexity.
- Ability to partner with all deal stakeholders including clients, relationship managers, and credit teams.
- Expertise in financial and risk analysis, including financial modeling.
- Proficient with technology and ability to learn new applications.
- Some travel required.
Benefits
Portfolio Manager II / Sr Portfolio Manager – Financial Institutions Group Total Base Pay Range: $96,500.00 – $ USD annually. The role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan based on company, line of business, and/or individual performance.
