Description:
A Financial Analyst provides support to ministry managers and directors. The Financial Analyst provides assistance and analysis during the budget-development process. The Financial Analyst must be able to, on a periodic and ongoing basis, look at the departmental budgets to assess current expenditure compared to the budget. This analysis must include the development and use of quantitative measures to be able to properly assess the status of budgetary goals and direct future decision-making on organizational expenditures. The Financial Analyst must also be able to present this information to management, executives, and other team members in a clear, comprehensive manner that allows individuals without extensive financial training to understand the current and future budget situation. Works with leadership to develop departmental budgets and forecasts. Integrate as part of the team for the managers and directors they support, becoming informed and aware of the team’s operations. Design, create, and execute financial system reports for executives and other team members.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare monthly financial and report packages for distribution to the management team.
Conduct monthly budget meetings with the management team.
Support accounting activities within the department to ensure accurate recording and reporting of expenses, projects and revenue.
Directs compilation of data based on statistical studies.
Analyze past and current years to prepare budgets and to justify funds requested.
Review operating budgets periodically to analyze trends and variances affecting budget needs.
Consult with management to ensure changes or new initiatives are quantified and to facilitate accurate long-term planning.
Direct preparation of regular and special budget reports to interpret budget directives and to establish policies for carrying out directives.
Create activity and project codes in the accounting, donor management system and credit card management system.
Assist with the monthly close process.
Create various tools and templates for capital projects, budgets, and various executive reporting.
Design, improve, and implement processes, procedures and tools that support strategy, planning, budgeting and measurement activities.
Designs, develops, and tests Microsoft Excel budgeting templates and financial systems.
Prepare and execute test plans for any financial system.
Special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
Education:
Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting (preferred) or a bachelor’s degree in Business
One to three years of related experience required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience:
The ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions and reports is required.
Excellent listening, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required.
Ability to work independently on assignments or projects, while working cooperatively in a team environment.
Ability to work effectively on multiple projects or tasks concurrently and prioritize to meet deadlines.
Adept at using Microsoft Excel.
Experience with or ability to learn ERP, Reporting, and Budgeting software.
Good organizational skills are a necessity.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures used in accounting, planning, and budgeting.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Standard office equipment, including, but not limited to computer,a calculator, a facsimile, a telephone, a copier, and printers
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to sit at a desk and/or computer for a minimum of 7.5 hours per day.
Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, and other office equipment.
Requires a normal range of hearing and vision.
Must be able to walk or move to and from various conference or meeting room locations throughout the ministry buildings.
