Manager, Project Finance Jobs in United States at Tapio

Title: Manager, Project Finance

Company: Tapio

Location: United States

Job Title: Manager, Project Finance & Valuation

Platform Type: PE backed BESS IPP

Compensation: Competitive base + cash bonus

The Opportunity

A high-growth, private equity-backed energy storage IPP is seeking a Manager of Project Finance to lead valuation, structuring, and capital execution across its battery storage portfolio.

This role goes beyond traditional project finance execution. It requires a strategic, detail-oriented leader who can own the “source of truth” modeling environment, sharpen underwriting and risk frameworks, and standardize how the company evaluates and executes project- and portfolio-level transactions.

You’ll serve as a close partner to the executive team, owning valuation strategy, supporting capital markets activity, and helping scale the processes, tools, and team capabilities required to finance a growing storage platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the platform’s model and template architecture (structure, assumptions, and version governance), ensuring a consistent, audit-ready financial “operating system” that supports both asset- and portfolio-level decisions.
  • Continuously improve the modeling stack by reducing template debt over time—making models faster to run, easier to extend, and more reliable under tight timelines and high diligence intensity.
  • Personally lead modeling and structuring for the most complex or time-sensitive opportunities, including financings and strategic transactions involving contracted vs. merchant revenue mixes, tolling/offtake terms, augmentation strategy, and long-duration operating assumptions.
  • Act as lead execution partner to the CIO, quarterbacking capital markets workflows and driving transactions from initial structuring through term sheet, diligence, and close.
  • Build scenario-driven underwriting tools to evaluate storage-specific value drivers and downside cases (e.g., dispatch sensitivity, price/volatility regimes, capacity/RA constructs, degradation/augmentation, congestion and basis risk, curtailment, and merchant tails), anticipating investor and lender sensitivities and embedding protective structuring where needed.
  • Serve as final quality control and sign-off for all externally facing models and analyses—reviewing accuracy, consistency, and narrative alignment across IC materials, investor decks, lender diligence, and valuation deliverables.
  • Manage intake and prioritization across structuring requests, sequencing modeling workstreams across development, commercial, and M&A so the team focuses on the highest-value decisions without sacrificing rigor.
  • Mentor and develop junior talent by creating leverage through clear work standards, repeatable templates, and coaching that enables scale without repeated senior intervention.
  • Align project finance outputs with the CFO’s reporting systems, ensuring that valuation assumptions reconcile to internal dashboards and forecasts reflect real-world cash flow timing and revenue recognition.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in power/renewables project finance, with significant exposure to energy storage (standalone and/or hybrid).
  • Deep modeling expertise and the ability to make and defend high-stakes valuation decisions with clarity and precision.
  • Demonstrated experience owning models used in debt financings, structured equity, M&A, or portfolio transactions (and navigating lender/investor diligence expectations).
  • Strong command of storage underwriting and transaction structuring, including scenario analysis tied to operating performance, revenue stack design, and merchant/contracted tradeoffs.
  • Proven ability to drive process discipline and system improvement—standardizing workflows while improving speed and reliability over time.
  • Track record of quality control leadership, with comfort being the final checkpoint on externally delivered analyses.
  • Highly collaborative and effective cross-functionally (commercial, development, engineering, legal), with demonstrated ability to mentor and scale team output.
  • Prior experience in a PE-backed platform or high-growth energy company is a plus.
