Position: Junior Billing Analyst (12-month FTC)

We are seeking two highly motivated Junior Billing Analysts to join our dynamic Legal Finance team operating within the Billing Team and working closely with partners, fee earners, and the wider finance team, on a 12-month FTC. This entry-level position is an excellent springboard into Legal Finance, offering hands‑on experience and a thorough understanding of the end‑to‑end billing process—a cornerstone for running matters in a law firm and ensuring profitability and cashflow.
As a Junior Billing Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the firm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
- You will play a central role in supporting fee‑earners and their Billing journey- assisting with the full cycle of client matter billing, from initial engagement to final invoice, ensuring everything is accurate, timely, and aligned with client requirements and internal policies whilst minimising friction for the fee‑earners.
- Providing support in coordinating and responding to requests submitted to the central Billing inbox through the ticketing system.
- Identify potential billing risks early (e.g., missing time entries, rate inconsistencies, WIP anomalies) and flag them before they impact deadlines.
- Reviewing time entries and narratives to identify potential issues and recommend appropriate amendments.
- Act as a central point of coordination between Billing, the wider Finance department, EAs, fee‑earners, and other teams to keep billing workflows smooth and joined‑up.
- Ensure our data can be relied upon – Update and monitor client and matter billing rates, ensuring all records are current and adjustments are implemented accurately so that fee‑earners and Finance colleagues alike always have the right information to hand.
- Contribute and support the management of e‑billing submissions, help maintain compliance with specific client e‑billing requirements, and troubleshoot any issues related to electronic invoicing.
- Stay ahead of the curve by tracking Work in Progress (WIP), regularly monitoring unbilled time and expenses to support effective matter management and revenue recognition.
- Turn data into insight by producing and delivering regular matter‑level financial reports, raising awareness of billing status, WIP, and overall financial performance to legal teams and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with legal teams to gather, review, and validate billable time and expenses, addressing any queries or discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare draft and final invoices using the firm’s billing systems, ensuring proper formatting, narrative, and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders regarding billing queries, adjustments, and clarifications.
- Support the Accounts Receivable process by monitoring outstanding invoices and assisting with follow‑ups to ensure timely collections, contributing directly to the firm’s cashflow.
- Maintain accurate records of billing activities and contribute to monthly reporting and analysis on matter profitability and financial performance.
- Help shape and improve how we operate by Identifying areas for process improvement within the Billing function, supporting the implementation of best practices across the team.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Recent graduate with a degree in Finance, Business, Law, or a related field.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to build effective working relationships with both legal and non‑legal colleagues.
- Proactive and organised, able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
