Selby Jennings is partnering with a Middle Market investment banking firm to recruit an Investment Banking Associate for its Sports, Media, and Entertainment group based in Los Angeles. This role offers hands‑on involvement in M&A and strategic advisory transactions across content‑driven, sports‑related, and media businesses.
The Associate will work closely with senior bankers in lean teams, taking significant responsibility throughout the transaction lifecycle in a collaborative, execution‑focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Execute sell‑side and buy‑side M&A, capital raising, and strategic advisory assignments.
- Build and maintain financial models, including operating models, valuations, and transaction analyses.
- Prepare client materials such as pitch books, CIMs, management presentations, and financial analyses.
- Conduct industry and company research to support strategic positioning and transaction execution.
- Perform valuation work using DCF, comparable company, and precedent transaction analyses.
- Coordinate diligence processes, data rooms, and timelines across multiple live engagements.
- Review and mentor Analysts, ensuring high standards of analysis and presentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with strong academic performance.
- Typically 2-5+ years of investment banking experience with demonstrated transaction execution and modeling expertise.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- FINRA Series 79 and Series 63 licenses, or ability to obtain them.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to Sports, Media, Entertainment, or adjacent sectors is a plus.
- Sell‑side M&A experience and comfort working in small, execution‑oriented deal teams.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
