The Role

The International Payroll Specialist acts as the key liaison between the company and its external payroll vendor(s), ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across designated entities. This role plays a critical part in driving operational excellence, strengthening governance, and ensuring full alignment with internal controls and local statutory requirements.

The position requires strong international payroll experience, with a particular focus on Romania & UK payroll, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex, multinational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Vendor Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll vendor(s) for operational queries, escalations, and service delivery matters
  • Coordinate regular governance meetings and drive timely issue resolution
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to SLAs and quality standards

Payroll Operations

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for assigned countries/entities, including international payroll coverage
  • Ensure accurate payroll inputs, approvals, and timely submissions
  • Review and validate payroll outputs, including gross-to-net calculations, statutory deductions, and reporting

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure payroll processes comply with local labor laws, tax regulations, and internal audit requirements, including SOX controls
  • Actively support payroll-related audits, wage tax reviews, and statutory reporting in collaboration with vendors
  • Maintain strong governance and ensure robustness of payroll controls across countries

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner closely with HR, Finance, and Legal teams to ensure payroll accuracy and policy alignment
  • Collaborate with Finance on reconciliations, accruals, and audit requirements, acting as a key contact for compliance-related topics

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
  • Support payroll system enhancements, automation initiatives, and change management projects
  • Contribute to standardization and harmonization of international payroll processes

What You Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in payroll operations, within a multinational/international environment
  • Proven experience managing international payroll, preferably in Romanian & UK payroll
  • Solid understanding of payroll processes, vendor management, statutory compliance, and audit requirements
  • Experience working with external payroll providers (e.g., EY, ADP, SD Worx)
  • Strong knowledge of SOX controls and payroll governance frameworks
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with payroll systems and tools
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interact effectively across regions
  • Fluent English (mandatory)
