Following an investor-backed Management Buy-Out in January 2025, we are an independent scale-up on a high-growth trajectory, building internal corporate functions that support our customers, employees and investors.

About the Role

We are looking for a Head of Accounting & Tax to take end-to-end ownership of our global accounting, tax compliance, consolidation and financial reporting processes. This is a key leadership role in a small, globally distributed Finance team and offers the opportunity to build and professionalize Cumulocity’s internal accounting and tax function as the company scales.

You will lead a small internal Accounting & Tax team (expected range: 4-5 direct or functional team members as the function is built out) and coordinate external service providers across our international footprint, ensure high-quality monthly and annual closings, drive group-wide accounting standards, and act as the central point of contact for auditors, tax advisors, tax authorities, management and investors on accounting and tax matters. The role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

We are a widely remote-working global company with major representations in Germany, India, Bulgaria, the UK and the US. This role can be based remotely in Bulgaria, with hybrid collaboration where useful.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Accounting & Tax function, including the operational management, development and motivation of the accounting team and the coordination of external service providers across all relevant jurisdictions.

  • Own the timely and accurate preparation of monthly and annual standalone financial statements as well as consolidated group financial statements in accordance with German GAAP (HGB).

  • Manage the group-wide month-end and year-end close process, including accruals, reconciliations, intercompany processes, consolidation activities and quality reviews.

  • Prepare and coordinate monthly financial reporting in close collaboration with Controlling, the CFO, management, external accounting providers and other parties involved in consolidation; support reporting to investors and shareholders.

  • Develop, harmonize and maintain group-wide accounting policies, closing calendars, documentation standards and accounting manuals across legal entities.

  • Act as the central point of contact for auditors, tax advisors, tax authorities and internal stakeholders on accounting, tax and financial reporting topics.

  • Ensure timely preparation and filing of VAT returns, statistical reports and other recurring compliance requirements across relevant jurisdictions.

  • Oversee tax-related processes, including VAT/GST, withholding tax matters and tax-relevant vendor/customer processes, in collaboration with local advisors.

  • Implement, document and continuously improve internal controls, approval routines and financial governance procedures to ensure data integrity, compliance and audit readiness.

  • Drive the optimization, standardization, simplification and automation of accounting and close processes, with a strong focus on scalable best-in-class processes and efficient use of finance systems.

  • Support system and process transformation initiatives, including the transition from external provider-led accounting to increased internal ownership, and the further development of tools such as ERP, AP automation and consolidation systems.

  • Support ad hoc accounting and tax topics, shareholder/investor requests, due diligence, acquisition-related workstreams and other significant transactions where required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field; alternatively, a comparable qualification such as certified accountant, tax advisor, CPA or equivalent is a plus.
  • 10+ years of total professional experience, including at least 5 years in accounting, financial reporting, consolidation or audit; experience in a multinational environment is strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record in a comparable leadership role with ownership of month-end close, annual financial statements and group reporting processes.
  • Strong German GAAP (HGB) knowledge and experience with consolidated financial statements; IFRS or international GAAP knowledge is a plus.
  • Good understanding of German and international tax compliance topics, including VAT/GST, withholding tax and recurring statutory filings.
  • Experience leading, developing and motivating teams; you combine clear expectations with a supportive and collaborative leadership style.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, improve and scale accounting processes, policies, controls and documentation in a dynamic growth environment.
  • Strong systems affinity and experience with major ERP, accounting, AP automation or Reporting systems like Lucanet; we will implement a new ERP.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders, investors, auditors, advisors and globally distributed teams.
  • Structured, self-driven and hands-on working style with strong ownership, attention to detail and a positive “can do” attitude.
  • Excellent English skills in speaking and writing is required. German skills are considered a strong advantage and additional languages are a plus.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Opportunities for growth in a fast-paced, high-impact global organization.
  • The opportunity to shape the global financial controls environment, accounting processes, system landscape and Cumulocity’s internal finance strategy as we scale.
  • A dynamic and collaborative work environment at the forefront of Industrial IoT innovation.
  • Flexible remote / hybrid working arrangements within Bulgaria.
