Rev & Regs are recruiting for a Head of Finance position working for a large multinational Financial Services / Payments company in Malta.
As the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for the administration and execution of Senior Management’s budget as approved by the Board of Directors (BoD). You will serve as one of the primary individuals effectively directing the company’s financial operations, balancing robust regulatory compliance with commercial strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Department Leadership: Manage, mentor, and build the finance department team. Oversee daily accounting workflows, distribute workloads, and conduct performance reviews.
- Financial Governance & Strategy: Ensure all business activities align with the budgetary targets approved by the BoD. Track, scrutinise, and investigate abrupt changes in financial figures, procedures, or personnel, while regularly controlling and analysing variances between projections and actual results. Develop and maintain internal controls, payment auditing protocols, accounting policies, and automated reporting workflows.
- Regulatory & Capital Compliance: Ensure the company consistently meets minimum capital requirements under Article 4 of Directive 2009/110/EC (and any subsequent amendments). Prepare and submit all required financial and regulatory reports to the MFSA in a timely and compliant manner.
- Acquiring Operations & Financial Reporting: Oversee the reconciliation of processed, collected, and settled merchant transactions. Lead month-end closing, monthly management accounts, and group financial consolidation.
- Fund Safeguarding: Ensure the strict segregation of client funds from corporate funds, maintaining fully functional, appropriately designated corporate and client accounts at all times.
- Commercial Insights: Report ongoing external factors affecting costs to the CEO. Monitor competitor pricing, perform cost-benefit analyses for each service, and collaborate with senior management to integrate these insights into the company’s overarching strategy.
- Financial Reporting & Audit: Work closely with the accounting department to prepare and review monthly trial balances, quarterly management accounts, and annual financial statements. Act as the primary liaison for external auditors to finalise audited accounts within regulatory timeframes.
Experience:
- Proven track record as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, Director of Finance, or a similar senior financial role.
- Direct experience within the payments, fintech, or financial services industry is preferred.
- Technical Skills: In-depth understanding of cash flow management, bank reconciliation, and complex corporate bookkeeping.
- Hands-on expertise in corporate budgeting, risk management, data analysis, and financial forecasting models.
- High proficiency in modern accounting and ERP software.
- ACCA qualification (or equivalent CPA/CFA) is required.
- BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field; an MSc or MBA is considered an advantage.
Salary: €90,000 – €110,000
Location: Remote / must be based in Malta
