The Role

This is a broad, hands-on first finance hire. As Head of Finance, you will own the company’s financial operations end to end, but the role reaches well beyond traditional control. In a prelaunch, fast-moving business you will also help shape the operating model, manage banking, treasury and payments relationships, and build the financial infrastructure and reporting that the Board relies on. This role is initially an interim role whist the business in this phase, however subject to the platform launching, a full-time role will be available to this person with a rare opportunity to build a finance function from the ground up and to influence the commercial decisions that will define the business.

Key responsibilities

Financial control and reporting

• Own the accounting records, month-end close and statutory reporting.

• Establish financial controls, processes and systems from day one.

• Manage external accountants, auditors and tax advisers; run payroll and supplier payments.

Planning, analysis and the operating model

• Own and maintain the financial operating model, budgets and forecasts.

• Track capital deployment against plan and report variances clearly.

• Provide commercial analysis to support pricing, cost and investment decisions.

• Build and maintain the KPI and management-reporting framework.

Treasury, banking and payments

• Manage banking relationships, cash and treasury.

• Support the selection and ongoing management of payment-processing and merchantacquiring partners.

• Manage the working-capital and payment-flow mechanics of a high-volume consumer platform.

Tax, compliance and structure

• Liase with external tax advisers on various elements of the corporate and tax structure

• Manage VAT and indirect-tax obligations, including cross-border and digital-services considerations.

• Liaise with the registered agent and ensure statutory and regulatory compliance across the business.

Board reporting and governance

• Prepare Board reporting packs and management accounts.

• Partner with the CEO and executive team, and support the Board on financial strategy.

Team and scale

• Build and lead the finance function as the business grows.

About you

Essential

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience.

• Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally in a startup, scale-up or high-growth environment.

• Strong, self-driven work ethic. Takes responsibility for the functioning of the finance department and can be held accountable by the Board.

• Strong technical accounting combined with genuine commercial and FP&A capability.

• Hands-on and self-sufficient, comfortable building processes and systems from scratch.

• A clear communicator, able to present financial information to senior stakeholders and to non-finance colleagues.

• Based in Los Angeles, or willing to relocate; this is a substantive role.

Desirable

• Experience in payments, fintech, marketplaces, subscription or platform businesses.

• Familiarity with merchant acquiring and high-volume card processing.

• Familiarity with Isle of Man corporate, tax and substance requirements.

• Experience supporting fundraising and investor reporting.

Reporting line and location

• Reports to: the Board of Directors, with day-to-day liaison through a finance-experienced Investor Director, working in close partnership with the CEO and executive team.

• Location: based in our Los Angeles office. This is a substantive role; candidates must be resident in, or willing to relocate to, Los Angeles. Relocation support is available.
