A highly successful, international organization is seeking a strategic Head of Finance to lead its national financial operations in Hungary. Operating at the executive level, you will serve as a trusted business partner to the leadership team, co-driving the country’s strategic direction and commercial performance. This high-impact role balances board-level collaboration with the comprehensive leadership of the national finance department and associated corporate functions.
Job description
- Joint & Strategic Responsibilities
- Strategic Partnership: Partner closely with the Country Managing Director and international executive leadership to define, implement, and drive the national business strategy.
- Board-Level Accountability: Serve as an active member of the local executive team, sharing joint responsibility for delivering on country-wide profitability targets, KPIs, and corporate performance.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with international stakeholders and local leadership to ensure national operations are seamlessly aligned with global strategies and compliance frameworks.
- Individual & Functional Responsibilities
- Functional Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the national finance organization and associated corporate departments
- Financial Governance & Reporting: Oversee all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes, ensuring absolute financial integrity across all operating entities.
- Regulatory & Legal Authority: Act as the official officer of the company for tax and regulatory requirements, ensuring full compliance with local laws.
- Statutory Oversight: Review, approve, and sign off on statutory financial statements, local GAAP requirements, and standalone audits.
- Risk & Performance Management: Implement robust cost-control measures, performance tracking, and risk mitigation strategies to safeguard company assets.
- Talent Management: Drive personnel decisions within the finance division, fostering a culture of continuous development, accountability, and high performance.
Requirements
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
- Chartered Accountant Certification with active registration is preferred but not a must.
- Proven track record in a top-tier financial leadership role (e.g., Head of Finance, Finance Director) within an international corporate environment.
- Extensive experience operating at a board or executive leadership level and strategic decision-making capabilities.
- Deep understanding of Hungarian tax laws, statutory reporting, local GAAP, and international financial frameworks.
- Exceptional people management capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and develop cross-functional senior teams.
- Experience in retail or a similar industry is advantageous but not required.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills to effectively influence both local and international executive levels.
- High level of integrity, analytical mindset, and the willingness to carry executive-level legal and statutory responsibilities.
- Fluent English and Hungarian is required as well as at least intermediate level of German knowledge.
