Barden are delighted to be selected as the exclusive recruitment partner for a large construction business with an international presence in their search for a Group Finance Director.

This is the number one finance role in the business. You will sit at the heart of the Senior Leadership Team, acting as a trusted advisor on strategy, financial control, and the overall direction of the business. You will take full ownership of the finance function, leading a tight-knit team while playing a critical role in setting the business up for continued success both domestically and internationally.

This is a broad, high-trust role that has both strategic influence with hands-on financial leadership. You will work closely with the Shareholders and Board of Directors on long-term planning and key decision-making, while ensuring the finance function delivers robust reporting, control, and commercial insight to support the business as it continues to grow.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the shareholders on strategy, business planning, and long-term direction.
  • Take full ownership of the Group finance function, leading and developing a tight-knit team.
  • Deliver accurate, timely monthly and annual financial and management reporting across all entities, domestic and international.
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
  • Maintain robust financial controls, governance, and compliance across the Group.
  • Oversee cashflow, working capital, and treasury management across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage relationships with banks, auditors, and other external advisors.
  • Provide commercial insight and financial analysis to support key business and investment decisions.
  • Oversee tax and statutory compliance across all operating jurisdictions.
  • Support the Owners and Senior Leadership Team on M&A, expansion, and other strategic initiatives as they arise.
  • Ensure the business is well positioned from a financial and governance perspective to support its continued growth trajectory.

ABOUT THE PERSON

  • Qualified accountant, with circa 20 years' progressive finance experience.
  • Proven track record operating at Group Finance Director / CFO level.
  • Experience working as part of a Senior Leadership Team, with the gravitas to operate as a trusted advisor.
  • Hands on, pragmatic leader who is equally comfortable operating at strategic and operational levels.
  • Strong leadership capability, with a track record of building and developing high-performing, close-knit teams.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
  • Commercially minded, with sound judgement and the ability to operate with discretion in an owner-led business.
