Job Summary:
The General Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting operations of Lug, ensuring financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner. This role will assist with bookkeeping, reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance with Canadian accounting standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working remotely while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Operations
• Record daily financial transactions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Maintain organized and accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements and internal management reports.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
• Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payment in accordance with company policies.
• Monitor accounts receivable balances and follow up on outstanding invoices when required.
• Assist with vendor and customer account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
Payroll & Expense Support
• Assist with payroll data reconciliation in financial statements.
• Review employee expense submissions for accuracy and policy compliance prior to processing.
• Process contractor invoices and coordinate with payroll specialist in processing the payment.
Compliance & Reporting
• Assist with the preparation and filing of HST returns and other statutory filings as required.
• Support external accountants during audits, tax preparation, and year-end reporting.
• Ensure accounting documentation is complete and maintained in accordance with company recordkeeping standards.
Process Improvement & Collaboration
• Support the implementation and improvement of accounting systems, procedures, and internal controls.
• Collaborate with operations, finance, and leadership teams to provide financial insights and support business decisions.
• Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis, budgeting support, and special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
• Working knowledge of Canadian accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a remote work environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting e-commerce, retail, or consumer product companies.
• Progress toward a CPA designation or interest in pursuing CPA.
• Experience working with remote teams and cloud-based accounting platforms.
