About the Role

The Financial Reporting & Internal Control Manager plays a critical leadership role within the finance function, with primary responsibility for ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of the Group’s financial reporting, the effectiveness of internal control frameworks, and robust compliance with Australian and international tax obligations. Reporting to the CFO, the role partners closely with senior finance leadership, tax advisors and operational stakeholders to support informed decision-making, safeguard assets, manage risk and ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation, regulatory requirements and internal policies.

The role has a particular focus on tax governance, including oversight of direct and indirect tax compliance, management of international tax matters arising from offshore investment and funding structures, and coordination with external advisors to ensure tax risks are identified, managed and appropriately reported. The position is instrumental in developing robust accounting and tax processes, maintaining strong governance and control environments, and supporting the scalable growth of the business.

 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting;

  • Oversee the preparation, review and delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for all entities within the Group in accordance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Manage month-end processes, including review of general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations and high-risk or complex accounting areas.
  • Prepare and review management reports, board reporting packs and statutory financial statements.
  •  Ensure timely and accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

Internal Controls & Governance

  • Establish, maintain and continuously improve robust internal control frameworks, policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Evaluate governance, risk and control frameworks across the organisation and recommend improvements.
  • Lead internal audit planning, testing and reporting, focusing on areas of key audit and business risk.
  • Drive adoption and implementation of new accounting standards across the Group.

Audit & Compliance

  • Lead the annual external audit process, including development of audit plans, coordination with auditors and timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Liaise with external advisors including auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with statutory, tax and regulatory obligations.
  • Oversee compliance with BAS, IAS, income tax and fringe benefits tax obligations across all relevant entities.
  • Manage, monitor and report on financial covenants associated with loans provided by external financiers, including preparation of covenant calculations, certifications and ongoing compliance reporting in accordance with facility agreements.
  • Monitor loan covenant compliance and prepare required reporting and undertakings under facility agreements.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Leverage the ERP and financial systems to enhance financial reporting, controls, efficiency and scalability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes, controls and workflows.
  • Support implementation of new financial systems or enhancements to existing platforms.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency gains and improved analytical capability.

Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Lead, mentor and develop members of the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Provide timely financial analysis, insights and advice to management to support operational, investment and financing decisions.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Apply sound judgement and professional scepticism, escalating issues where risks or inconsistencies are identified.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline; CA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a financial reporting, audit or internal control management role.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including preparation and presentation of financial statements.
  • Experience in the property or development industry highly regarded.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial information with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment and manage competing priorities.
