Role purpose

Make NP Group’s numbers decision-useful. Lead planning, forecasting, analysis, cost and project bidding, and embed finance business partners with the clusters so that leaders make better-informed decisions.

Key responsibilities

•    Run the annual budget and rolling forecast for the group and each cluster.

•    Lead variance analysis and reporting commentary, and provide decision support to the CEO and cluster directors.

•    Lead and develop the cluster finance business partners, keeping them close to the business but on the finance line.

•    Own the cost model and product-cost integrity, including the manufacturing cost accountant whose full-cost data underpins the transfer price and the dual-mandate scorecard.

•    Lead the analytical side of project accounting: project margin and work-in-progress for design-and-build and construction.

•    Lead project bidding and tendering support: bid cost models, pricing, margin and win/loss analysis.

•    Support the capital-allocation discipline: build the stage-gate analysis, hurdle-rate evaluation and post-investment reviews for the CFO and Board.

•    Provide the scorecard inputs that drive the incentive framework.

•    Build the FP&A toolkit and analytical standards.

Authority and boundaries

•    Owns the planning calendar, forecast assumptions and analysis standards.

•    Recommends capital and pricing inputs; does not approve capital or set capital-allocation or transfer-pricing policy.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

•    Qualified accountant or a strong commercial-finance background.

•    Eight to ten years in FP&A or commercial finance, with cost and management-accounting depth.

•    Experience business-partnering with operational leaders.

Desirable

•    Manufacturing cost accounting and/or project accounting experience.

•    Experience in a multi-business-unit group.

•    Strong modelling and business-intelligence tool fluency.

Skills and competencies

•    Analytical rigor and commercial judgment.

•    Credibility and influence to challenge operators constructively.

•    Strong financial modelling and the ability to tell the story behind the numbers.

•    Leadership of a dispersed business-partner team.

Key relationships

The CEO and cluster directors (partnering), the CFO (capital and the cost base), Financial Reporting (actuals), and the commercial teams.

Success measures

•    Forecast accuracy.

•    Budget cycle quality and timeliness.

•    Decision-support responsiveness.

•    Cost-model accuracy.

Priorities for the first 6 to 12 months

•    Deliver a credible group budget and a rolling forecast.

•    Stand up the cost model and the product-cost basis with manufacturing.

•    Place at least one cluster business partner.
