Manager, FP&A – Capital & Operations

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a Manager, FP&A – Capital & Operations to serve as a strategic finance business partner supporting major capital projects and operational initiatives. This individual will play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, capital planning, management reporting, and business decision support while partnering closely with project leadership and cross-functional teams.

This is a highly visible, hands-on position that combines financial planning and analysis with project finance, accounting oversight, capital expenditure management, and executive reporting. The successful candidate will help improve financial visibility, strengthen forecasting accuracy, establish scalable financial processes, and provide actionable insights that support strategic business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Business Partnership

  • Serve as the primary finance partner to operational and project leadership.
  • Translate operational plans into financial forecasts, budgets, cash flow projections, and management reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations that improve operational performance and support strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with operations, procurement, legal, accounting, tax, and other internal stakeholders to ensure financial considerations are incorporated into project planning.
  • Build strong relationships across the organization while providing thoughtful financial guidance and challenging assumptions when appropriate.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Modeling

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting activities.
  • Develop and maintain complex financial models supporting capital investments, operating costs, staffing, working capital, and cash flow planning.
  • Prepare rolling forecasts, budget-to-actual analyses, variance reporting, and cost-to-complete analyses.
  • Perform scenario modeling and sensitivity analyses to evaluate financial risks and strategic alternatives.
  • Identify forecast risks and recommend mitigation strategies to leadership.

Capital Planning & Project Financial Management

  • Support capital planning and investment approval processes.
  • Prepare financial analyses and supporting documentation for capital expenditures.
  • Monitor approved capital spending against budgets, commitments, accruals, and forecasts.
  • Track project costs and provide ongoing reporting on capital investment performance.
  • Improve visibility into future spending, vendor commitments, and project funding requirements.

Accounting, Compliance & Reporting

  • Coordinate with internal accounting teams and external accounting, tax, audit, and compliance advisors.
  • Assist with month-end close activities by reviewing financial results and ensuring reporting accuracy.
  • Maintain compliance calendars and monitor key reporting deadlines.
  • Review financial information for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Support financial statement reporting and compliance initiatives.

Process Improvement

  • Develop scalable financial planning and reporting processes.
  • Standardize budgeting templates, reporting packages, and financial workflows.
  • Support ERP, reporting, budgeting, and business intelligence system improvements.
  • Drive continuous process improvements across finance and project operations.
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Approximately 7–10 years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, finance business partnering, project finance, controllership, or related finance roles.
  • CPA, CMA, CFA, MBA, or other advanced financial credential preferred.
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis.
  • Experience supporting capital-intensive businesses, large projects, infrastructure, manufacturing, construction, energy, industrial, or private equity-backed organizations is preferred.
  • Experience supporting capital investment approvals, project budgeting, or cost-to-complete reporting is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, month-end close, accrual accounting, management reporting, and internal controls.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS.
  • Experience managing external auditors, tax advisors, or consulting partners.
  • Advanced Excel skills with experience using ERP systems, budgeting applications, reporting tools, Power BI, or similar financial software.
