Overview

We are looking for a senior Controller to join EIM as a strategic financial leader. This is not just a back-office accounting role — you will be a client-facing finance executive, owning the full financial function for a portfolio of startup clients while helping build and lead EIM's internal finance team.

You will start managing 10 active client accounts, with a clear path to grow to 20–30 clients as the team scales. You will build and initially oversee a finance team of 2–3 people, which will expand over time.

This role begins as a full-time contractor engagement.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Client Management

  • Serve as the senior financial point of contact for a portfolio of 10+ startup clients (growing to 20–30)
  • Present financial reports, forecasts, and strategic recommendations directly to client leadership and boards
  • Provide financial advisory, including cash flow strategy, financial structuring, and scenario planning
  • Partner with client founders to translate financial data into clear, actionable business decisions

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Own the full month-end and year-end close process across client accounts
  • Prepare, review, and deliver accurate financial statements, management reports, and board packages
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions across the client portfolio
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP standards, internal controls, and applicable financial regulations

Forecasting, Budgeting & Modelling

  • Build and maintain robust financial forecasting models, including both SaaS-specific metrics and traditional financial frameworks
  • SaaS metrics: ARR, MRR, churn, LTV, CAC, burn rate, runway
  • Traditional modelling: P&L projections, cash flow forecasts, balance sheet planning
  • Lead annual budgeting processes for clients; provide ongoing variance analysis and reforecasting
  • Develop scenario models to support fundraising, expansion, and strategic planning decisions

Team Leadership

  • Directly manage and mentor a finance team of 2–3 (growing); set performance standards and support professional development
  • Establish and enforce best practices for financial management, client reporting, and internal workflows

Internal Finance & Operations

  • Oversee EIM's own financial health, including time-tracking reconciliation, billing, and financial reporting
  • Track team hours and ensure accurate timesheet-based billing across client accounts
  • Contribute to the development of EIM's financial service offerings and internal processes as we scale

QualificationsRequired

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or equivalent) — mandatory
  • 5+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 2–3 years in a Controller or senior finance role
  • North American business experience (Canada and/or United States)
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal (B2 or higher; C1 preferred)
  • Strong command of QuickBooks Online and Xero — both required
  • Demonstrated experience building financial models, forecasts, and budgets from scratch
  • Experience managing or mentoring finance team members
  • Comfortable presenting financial information to non-finance executives and boards

Preferred

  • Proven experience working with startups or early-stage companies
  • SaaS industry experience and fluency in SaaS financial metrics
  • Experience with Float Financial (expense management), ClickUp (project management), or similar tools
  • Exposure to AI-powered finance tools or automation in financial workflows
  • Multi-client or fractional Controller
