Peerless Electric is a manufacturer of commercial and industrial lighting fixtures. The company designs and produces lighting solutions for customers across North America and continues to develop its operations in the lighting industry.

Position Summary

Peerless Electric is seeking a Controller / Accountant to oversee the company’s accounting and financial operations. The successful candidate will manage full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, payroll, tax compliance, and internal controls, while supporting management with financial analysis and operational decision-making. This position reports directly to the President.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Accounting and Reporting
  • Manage full-cycle accounting including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.

Manufacturing and Cost Accounting

  • Monitor inventory valuation and cost accounting related to manufacturing operations.
  • Analyze production costs, margins, and variances.
  • Support management with cost control and operational analysis.

Budgeting and Financial Analysis

  • Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Analyze financial results and report variances versus budget.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to management.

Compliance and Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Prepare and file HST returns and other government reporting.
  • Maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Coordinate year-end audits with external accountants or auditors.

Payroll and Cash Flow Management

  • Oversee payroll processing and statutory remittances.
  • Monitor cash flow, bank balances, and working capital.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Good knowledge of Canadian accounting practices and tax regulations.

Strong Excel skills.

  • Experience with accounting software or ERP systems.

Additional Information

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week.
  • English required; French considered an asset.
