The Company
We are a multi-million-pound, family-run business with premises across two sites in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. The business operates across four divisions – clothing, furniture, health, and music retail – and this role will work across all of them, based at our Banbury site.
Role Overview
This is a broad and commercially facing finance leadership role. You will manage and develop the finance team, providing key financial insight to the Directors and Executive Board. We are looking for an experienced management accounts professional with strong financial control skills and the confidence to challenge stakeholders at all levels. The right person will deliver meaningful short, medium, and long-term impact for an innovative, fast-moving, growth-focused business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all financial reporting, producing internal and external reports including month-end management accounts.
- Oversee the purchase ledger, sales ledger, and credit control functions, ensuring full statutory compliance.
- Supervise and develop the finance team.
- Manage the financial budgeting process, including preparation, monthly variance reporting, and cost reduction analysis, presenting findings to the Directors.
- Take ownership of treasury management and cash flow – tracking transactions, interrogating invoices and payments, monitoring trends, developing controls, and presenting accurate cash projections.
- Work with sales and purchasing to improve cash flow and inventory control.
- Suggest and implement improvements to company accounting systems.
- Establish processes and controls to ensure all financial transactions across departments are properly recorded and reported.
- Maintain and evolve financial reporting systems in line with all relevant regulations and legislation.
- Drive a culture of accuracy and transparency across all financial activity.
- Prepare for and lead the annual audit with external auditors.
Skills and Experience
You will bring excellent organisational, analytical, and planning skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload. You will be a strong communicator, confident in engaging with stakeholders at all levels. Ideally you will hold a professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) and have a solid understanding of how business growth relates to finance in practice.

- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar Finance Manager or senior finance role.
- Previous line management experience.
- A genuine interest in and passion for finance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Agile and dynamic, with the ability to embrace and deliver change at pace.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills (Level A3).
- Confident with technology and AI tools to support the role.
