Fabrica is seeking a conscientious, proactive and highly organised Finance Manager to join our small, friendly team in central Brighton.
About Fabrica
Established in 1996, Fabrica is a contemporary arts charity based in a Grade II listed former Regency chapel in central Brighton. We deliver a year-round public programme of arts events, screenings and community projects, often in partnership with others. Our work supports wellbeing and mental health through creativity, alongside a commercial venue hire offer for events, filming and office space, creating a vibrant hub for cultural collaboration.
Role Description
This is a part-time role based on-site in central Brighton. As Finance Manager, you will oversee the organisation’s financial management, ensuring robust systems, accurate reporting and compliance with Charity Commission, Companies House and HMRC requirements. Working closely with the Director, Trustees and Administrator, you will manage budgets, cashflow, payroll, VAT returns, year-end processes and financial reporting, while supporting audits, funding applications and the organisation’s trading subsidiary.
This is a hands-on yet strategic role requiring strong financial expertise, attention to detail and excellent communication skills. You will help manage financial risk, improve systems and procedures, and provide clear financial information to support decision-making across the organisation.
Qualifications
- Qualified Accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Strong experience in charity finance and understanding of charity accounting
- Knowledge of VAT, payroll, PAYE, NI and pensions (NEST)
- Experience using QuickBooks Online (or similar) and advanced Excel skills
- Experience producing management accounts, budgets and financial reports
- Ability to interpret and present financial data clearly to non-finance colleagues
- Experience managing staff and working in a small team
- Strong communication, organisational skills and attention to detail
- Understanding of compliance requirements (Charity Commission, HMRC, Companies House)
- Proactive, self-motivated and aligned with charity/community values
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day financial management and reporting for the organisation and its trading subsidiary
- Prepare management accounts, cashflow forecasts, budgets, variance analysis and board reports
- Support financial strategy, planning, policies and risk management with Director and Trustees
- Ensure compliance with Charity Commission, HMRC, Companies House and grant requirements
- Run monthly payroll, VAT returns and other statutory financial submissions
- Oversee banking, financial controls and authorisation of payments
- Supervise bookkeeping processes and support Finance Administrator
- Liaise with auditors and prepare year-end accounts and statutory filings
- Monitor financial systems (QuickBooks) and improve processes where needed
- Support financial analysis of income-generating activities and organisational performance
