About us
pAI2 is a New Zealand technology company building digital platforms for the care and employment sectors. We operate Mycare, connecting care workers and clients across NZ, and Te Heke Mai, an employment coaching platform contracted with the Ministry of Social Development. We also have a presence in Canada. We are in a growth phase with a clear focus on reaching financial sustainability, and we need someone who can hold the financial picture clearly and tell us the truth about it.
Small team. Genuinely mission-driven. The founder is a social justice lawyer who won landmark legislation for NZ care workers, and that context shapes how we operate.
What the role involves
This is sole-charge finance work. Everything from the day-to-day through to board-level reporting sits with you. We run Xero for accounting and Fathom for management reporting, so you will hit the ground running rather than starting from scratch.
The scope includes:
• Fortnightly payroll and monthly close
• Management reporting with real commentary, not just numbers
• Cashflow forecasting and runway visibility
• Annual budgeting and scenario modelling
• Year-end accounts and tax, alongside our external accountant
• Board and shareholder administration
• Insurance management and IRD compliance, including Digital Platform Information reporting
You will automate what should be automated and bring enough commercial judgement to tell us what the numbers mean, not just what they say.
Who this will suit
You are probably a qualified or part-qualified accountant with solid experience in a small business environment. You will have owned end-to-end financial reporting in a small business environment, including management accounts, cashflow forecasting, and year-end process. You are comfortable being the only finance person in the room and do not need a team around you to do your best work. You are accurate, pragmatic, and can communicate clearly with people who are not finance specialists.
The practical stuff
This is a contract role. We are a growth-stage business with a constrained budget, so we will be honest: the rate reflects that. What we can offer is genuine autonomy, direct CEO access, and work with real social impact behind it. Location is flexible, either fully remote or you are welcome in our Takapuna office.
