ROLE OVERVIEW
Jacob & Co. is on the lookout for an experienced and dedicated Controller to lead our accounting and bookkeeping processes. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of our financial records while mentoring and developing our Accounting team.
This is a full-time, exempt position located in New York City.
The Controller will report directly to the VP of Finance and will be responsible for directing and overseeing a team of four junior and senior accountants. You will manage the company's accounting policies and procedures, provide support and guidance to operating teams, ensure compliance with relevant accounting rules, and oversee various financial reporting processes.
LOCATION: 5 days/week in office, Midtown NYC
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct and oversee a team of 4 junior and senior accountants.
- Oversee and manage the company's policies and procedures for accounting and other general and administrative functions.
- Provide support and guidance to operating teams for specific transactions or issues to ensure compliance with relevant accounting rules.
- Maintain sales tax collection and filing procedures.
- Prepare, organize, lead, and conclude the monthly closing process.
- Ensure proper and timely preparation of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and analysis for the global organization.
- Organize and archive supporting working documents.
- Oversee and manage the function associated with analyzing and establishing new customers and vendors.
- Support, assess, analyze, and report overdue accounts to management.
- Participate in quarterly reviews and communicate financial reporting matters to executive management and external auditors.
- Coordinate and review annual financial statements under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for certain subsidiary companies.
- Manage and oversee the creation or modification of accounting policies and procedures.
- Maintain and manage a balanced level of internal control in the accounting department.
- Implement new accounting and financial reporting rules and regulations.
- Serve as the primary contact for the external audit team and coordinate other audit engagements (tax, sales tax, etc.).
- Oversee the completion of various government reports and surveys required by the US government and certain states within the United States.
- Assist operations, accounting, and management with due diligence and integration of target and/or acquired companies into the company's accounting and financial reporting processes.
- Oversee special projects and manage associated consultants or outside contractors as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Accounting
- CPA Certification, preferably
- Minimum of 8 years of professional accounting experience, with a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
- Experiences in QB and/or AX365 and/or BC365 highly welcome
- Experiences in public accounting and/or luxury retail/wholesale industry is a plus.
