Position Overview:
We’re looking for a hands-on Finance & Business Services Manager to lead the core business functions that keep Sports Medicine Australia running smoothly, with an immediate start available.
Reporting directly to the CEO and working as part of a collaborative Leadership Team, you’ll oversee the finance function including payroll, risk, HR support, IT systems, and office operations.
This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You’ll enjoy autonomy, problem-solving, and working with a small team of people who genuinely care about making a difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage SMA’s finance operations including budgeting, reporting, and end-of-year audit.
- Oversee payroll, HR administration, IT, and business support services.
- Lead risk management, governance, and compliance activities.
- Manage relationships with key external service providers (banking, IT, CRM, telephony etc).
- Provide strategic advice to the CEO and Leadership Team on financial and project management matters.
- Support continuous improvement across systems, technology, and processes.
- Report to the CEO, with direct exposure to the Board, and Finance Audit and Risk Committee.
About you
You’re an experienced finance professional who enjoys variety and being across the full breadth of business operations. You’re detail-driven, organised, and comfortable working with multiple stakeholders and juggling several projects.
You’ll bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Accounting, or a related field. CPA or equivalent qualification (or working towards).
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a finance and operations role, ideally in a small to medium-sized organisation or NFP.
- Hands-on experience with core accounting functions and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Xero, Excel, and Office 365. Zoho or similar CRM systems (highly advantageous).
- Proficiency of payroll, GST/BAS, and relevant accounting standards and legislation.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills up to Board-level.
