Orbit is hiring a Director of Finance & Accounting to join our leadership team in Toronto.
This role combines technical accounting leadership, client advisory, and team development. You will oversee team members across our service delivery and client success teams while also contributing to our Fractional CFO services for select clients.
This is an opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within a growing firm and work closely with company leadership to shape how financial expertise is delivered to our clients.
The Role
As Director of Finance & Accounting, you will play a central role in supporting both our internal teams and our clients’ financial leadership needs. The position combines team leadership, technical oversight, and strategic advisory work.
You will work closely with Orbit’s leadership team to strengthen internal processes, support the development of our finance professionals, and deliver high-quality financial guidance to our clients.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide leadership across a team of 20–25 finance professionals
- Manage and mentor Service Delivery team leaders
- Work closely with Client Success to ensure a strong client experience
- Support the development and growth of team members across the organization
Client Advisory & Fractional CFO Work
- Contribute to Fractional CFO services provided to clients
- Provide strategic financial guidance including forecasting, planning, and performance analysis
- Communicate financial insights clearly to founders, operators, and leadership teams
- Support clients in building scalable financial processes and reporting
Quality, Processes & Technical Oversight
- Contribute to internal quality controls and service delivery standards
- Support firm-wide accounting and finance best practices
- Partner with leadership to refine internal processes as the organization grows
- Act as Level 3 escalation support for complex client finance matters
Qualifications
Required
- CPA designation (mandatory)
- Strong technical accounting knowledge
- Experience managing or mentoring finance professionals
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial information for clients
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders or complex organizations
Ideal Background
- Experience at a Big 4 or mid-market accounting firm
- Exposure to advisory, CFO services, or finance transformation work
- Experience working directly with business owners, founders, or executive teams
- Strong interest in combining technical accounting with strategic finance
