Position Overview
Pepper is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the company's finance function during its next stage of growth. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will own the company's financial model, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes. The Director of Finance will serve as a key thought partner to leadership, helping evaluate major business decisions while ensuring the company has accurate financial reporting, scalable processes, and strong financial discipline. This individual will also act as the primary liaison to Pepper's external accounting team and oversee the monthly financial review process. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable building financial models, managing day-to-day finance operations, and partnering cross-functionally to support the company's continued growth.
Responsibilities:
- Own the company's budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and long-range planning processes
- Partner with leadership to evaluate strategic initiatives and support key business decisions
- Build and maintain financial models to evaluate new business initiatives and growth opportunities
- Lead cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and treasury activities
- Oversee inventory reconciliation and product-level profitability analysis
- Analyze financial performance and key business trends, providing actionable insights to support decision-making and long-term planning
- Evaluate debt financing, credit facilities, and other financing opportunities as needed
- Serve as the primary liaison to external accounting partners, reviewing monthly financial statements, resolving outstanding questions, and ensuring financial information is accurate and actionable
- Review and improve vendor payment processes, accounts payable workflows, financial controls, and reporting infrastructure
- Build scalable systems, processes, and reporting capabilities to support Pepper's long-term growth
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, strategic finance, corporate finance, or a related field
- Experience within a consumer, retail, ecommerce, manufacturing, or inventory-based business
- Exceptional financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of inventory management, COGS, cash flow, and working capital planning
- Experience partnering with senior leadership on strategic and operational decision-making
- Experience reviewing and analyzing financial statements
- Track record of building scalable financial systems and workflows within a growing organization
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to work cross-functionally across teams and with external partners
- Experience supporting retail expansion initiatives, omnichannel businesses, or physical stores is preferred
- Comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Additional Details
- Full-time position based in New York or Boston
- Work arrangement may be remote, or hybrid depending on the candidate and location
- Salary range: $170,000-$190,000 (based on experience and skill set)
