Overview
Director of Business Operations Jobs in United States at Emerge
Title: Director of Business Operations
Company: Emerge
Location: United States
Role Summary
We are looking for a high-impact Director of Business Operations to serve as the operational engine of our business and the right hand to senior leadership. You will own operational execution across a diverse portfolio of service lines — including partner-funded GTM programs, renewals operations, AI/CAI engagements, Client/Compute deliveries, GTS, and alliance partner staffing — each with distinct delivery models, billing structures, and staffing motions. You will take ownership of client engagements post-sale, serving as the primary lead for delivery, stakeholder management, and program governance. You are expected to move proactively — surfacing risks or gaps and providing actionable recommendations.
You will lead, refine, and structure our delivery teams to ensure high-quality execution while acting as a surgical troubleshooter for operational bottlenecks. You will maintain regular, high-visibility reporting for our clients, ensuring alignment on progress, risks, and outcomes. In partnership with our accounting team, you will serve as the first line of defense for financial health, ensuring engagements remain accurately tracked, billable, and aligned with SOW terms.
Organization & Scope
This role reports directly to the senior executive leading the business and carries day-to-day oversight of our delivery teams and contractor/managed services workforce across all service lines. The portfolio is intentionally diverse: some lines of business are deeply managed end-to-end, others are coordinated or staffed in partnership with clients and alliance partners. You will be expected to flex your operating model accordingly.
Key Objectives
- Portfolio Management: Oversee multiple concurrent programs across all service lines, maintaining a real-time view of milestones, billing calendars, and risk indicators for each — while recognizing that each line of business runs on a different delivery and commercial model.
- Operating Cadence Ownership: Build and run the cross-portfolio operating rhythm — weekly portfolio reviews, margin and burn dashboards, escalation triage, and forecast inputs — so leadership has a single, current view of the business.
- Billing & Commercial Ownership: Act as the internal champion for financial health; identify and validate all billing triggers to ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition in coordination with accounting.
- Workforce Oversight: Drive the process and accountability for our contractor and managed services workforce, ensuring resource alignment, onboarding quality, utilization, and consistent delivery performance across engagements.
- Stakeholder Orchestration: Act as the primary point of contact for clients. Manage expectations, navigate complex organizational dynamics, and lead communications at the Director+ level.
- Client Communication & Reporting: Own the regular client reporting cadence, providing visibility into status, risks, milestones, and financial health.
- Partner Program Compliance: Ensure delivery activities adhere to applicable partner and funded-program requirements (e.g., MDF, co-marketing, demand gen), including campaign requirements and expressed-consent protocols where they apply.
- Team Leadership: Manage, coach, and refine existing delivery teams, optimizing their structure and capabilities to ensure operational excellence.
- Operational Agility: Identify and solve immediate performance and process bottlenecks as they arise, leveraging AI productivity tools and modern tracking platforms.
Required Experience & Competencies
- Portfolio Fluency: Proven ability to manage a portfolio of complex, concurrent programs — with differing delivery and commercial models — without losing sight of individual program health.
- Commercial Operations & Financial Literacy: Strong ability to monitor margin health, burn rates, and billing triggers across engagement types. Comfortable flagging commercial risk before it impacts the bottom line.
- Workforce & Staffing Program Management: Experience supporting or coordinating contractors, MSP, staffing, or managed services programs alongside service delivery.
- Proactive Problem Solving: A "solutions-first” mindset. You present the leadership team with context, analysis, and a specific recommendation for every issue surfaced — not just a problem statement.
- Executive Presence: Superior written and verbal stakeholder management at the Director+ level.
- Operational Generalist: Ability to build and refine processes (staffing, tracking, AI-driven reporting) that scale across distinct lines of business.
- Modern Toolkit: Proficiency with AI productivity tools, project tracking platforms, and reporting automation.
- GTM Program Execution: Exposure to GTM program execution for enterprise technology solutions (data center networking, AI/ML platforms, cloud infrastructure, storage).
Preferred Experience
- Hyperscaler, Cloud & Ecosystem Fluency: Experience in cloud or technology partner ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP, Cisco) — as an employee or alliance partner — and comfort with the language of alliance programs, channel operations, and managed services.
- Funded-Program Mechanics: Familiarity with partner-funded program operations — MDF, PoP, SDF, co-marketing reimbursement, or AWS APFP processing.
- Renewals & Recurring Revenue Operations: Exposure to renewals motions, subscription/recurring revenue tracking, or customer success operations.
Why This Role is High-Impact
This is not a "business as usual” management role. We are looking for an operator who can run a heterogeneous portfolio of service lines and translate that complexity into smooth, predictable, and profitable delivery. If you thrive on building structure, guarding scope, and partnering with leadership to scale a delivery engine, this role offers significant autonomy and visibility.
Compensation & Logistics
- Compensation range: $130,000 – $145,000 USD
- Location: Remote (US or CAN-Based)
- Benefits: Competitive benefits package included
