Position Overview
High Limit Racing is seeking a Director of Accounting & Finance to lead and own the company’s day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, payroll administration, and compliance.
This hands-on role serves as the primary steward of the company’s financial integrity, reporting directly to executive leadership to maintain clean GAAP-compliant books, improve reporting clarity, and support sound decision-making.
The ideal candidate is a CPA-level accounting professional comfortable operating in a QuickBooks Online (QBO) environment while managing multi-state compliance, event-level financial tracking, and financial planning. We are looking for someone who values simplicity in financial systems and builds durable, well-organized accounting processes in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
This role requires a hands-on accounting leader comfortable operating in a lean organization and owning both strategic and day-to-day financial responsibilities.
Work Environment
This is a fully remote position requiring strong self-discipline and communication. The racing season runs from March through October, with full-time responsibilities continuing year-round.
While events take place on evenings and weekends, this role is not operationally involved but must remain responsive to time-sensitive financial matters.
This position works closely with the COO on day-to-day financial operations in a lean, fast-growing organization and requires a high level of independent execution. Minimal travel may be required for select meetings or events.
The ideal candidate is comfortable supporting a traveling, event-driven business where revenue, staffing, and operations move across multiple jurisdictions throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Own and continuously improve full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes while maintaining clean, GAAP-compliant financials.
- Deliver accurate, decision-ready monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash reporting.
- Coordinate year-end reporting and CPA support.
Payroll & Administrative Oversight
- Manage payroll, including commissions, bonuses, and reimbursements.
- Oversee employee onboarding and offboarding processes and payroll compliance.
- Administer health insurance, 401(k), and workers’ compensation programs.
- Ensure compliance with federal and multi-state employment regulations.
Event & Revenue Administration
- Oversee event settlements and related financial reconciliation.
- Ensure accurate event-level financial tracking and proper revenue recognition.
- Manage accounts receivable, collections, and accounts payable workflows.
Budgeting, Cash Flow & Controls
- Provide proactive weekly cash visibility and forward-looking liquidity planning.
- Build and maintain straightforward, decision-ready budgets, monthly budget vs. actual reporting, and rolling forecasts.
- Maintain strong internal controls and documentation standards.
Financial Systems & Compliance
- Simplify financial systems and workflows, eliminating unnecessary complexity while preserving clear, reliable reporting.
- Extensive hands-on expertise in QuickBooks Online (QBO), including class-based reporting, bank feeds, memorized transactions, and reconciliation workflows is required.
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and financial modeling.
- Own multi-state sales and use tax compliance, including registrations, filings, and reconciliation across numerous jurisdictions while maintaining audit-ready financial records.
Qualifications
- CPA required with strong GAAP foundation and experience owning full-cycle accounting.
- 8+ years of accounting experience, preferably in event-driven or operational businesses.
- Extensive experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO) in an operational accounting environment.
- Experience managing multi-state sales and use tax compliance across numerous jurisdictions.
- Strong month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, cash projection, and financial reporting experience.
- Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, financial modeling, complex formulas).
- Detail-oriented, organized, and self-directed in a remote environment.
- Experience or familiarity with motorsports, particularly dirt track racing, is a plus.
