A fast-growing retail company based in New York City is seeking a Director of Accounting to join their expanding finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role within a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.
Position **
Reporting directly to the Head of Accounting, the Director of Accounting will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, with a strong emphasis on inventory, cost accounting, and COGS. The ideal candidate has a blend of public and private accounting experience, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has a passion for process improvement and team development.
Key *
Oversee the month-end and year-end close process, including general ledger management
Manage and analyze inventory accounting and cost of goods sold (COGS)
Assist with cash forecasting and working capital management
Prepare and review internal financial reports and ensure GAAP compliance
Support ongoing Net Suite optimization and integration
Lead and mentor accounting team members; support hiring as team grows
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, FP&A, and supply chain teams
Support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules
Identify and implement process improvements and internal controls

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a mix of public and private background
Strong experience in inventory-based businesses and cost accounting
Solid understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting
Experience with Net Suite or similar ERP system
Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills
