About the Opportunity

We’re currently searching for our next Director of Finance. Reporting to the Executive Director, in this role you'll provide strategic financial leadership that enhances mission impact and ensures long-term sustainability, while managing and supporting a team of three that delivers core finance functions.

You’ll work closely with the Executive Director and Board to interpret financial data for decision-making, maintain compliance with Canadian charity regulations, oversee the enterprise risk management (ERM) framework, and step into operational roles when capacity or complexity demands it.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join an organization that pairs strong values with proven execution. We are widely respected for turning mission into action – delivering thoughtful, well‑designed programs with discipline, care, and measurable impact. As part of TI’s leadership team, you will be joining a culture that values stewardship, trust, collaboration, and accountability, and that takes pride in doing its work well.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead multi‑year, organization‑wide financial planning, scenario modelling, and sustainability analysis to support TI’s mission, long‑term financial stability, and growth.
  • Provide strategic financial insight by translating financial trends, risks, and opportunities into clear options and trade‑offs for leadership and the Board.
  • Align organizational budgets, performance indicators, and financial risk management with the strategic plan.
  • Develop financial business cases for new programs, partnerships, earned revenue, and organizational change initiatives.
  • Ensure full compliance with CRA and charity requirements, including T3010 filings, donation receipting, disbursement quotas, restricted funds, GST/HST, PSB rebates, audits, and internal controls.
  • Maintain responsibility for financial policies, banking relationships, insurance coverage, donor privacy, and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Partner with development and fundraising teams on grant budgeting, financial narratives, and funder reporting; monitor restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Own and maintain the Enterprise Risk Management framework, including risk identification, mitigation, reporting, and business continuity planning.
  • Lead organization‑wide budgeting, rolling forecasts, variance analysis, dashboards, and performance reporting, translating results into actionable insights.
  • Oversee operational finance, including month‑end close, financial statements under ASNPO, payroll, cash management, systems, and reporting calendars.
  • Lead, develop, and support finance staff; manage outsourced providers; promote financial literacy; and ensure continuity through strong documentation, policies, and controls.

Candidate Profile

As our ideal candidate you're a seasoned NPO finance leader who brings strong foresight, sound judgement, and a disciplined approach to risk management in complex, mission‑driven environments. You're comfortable thinking several years ahead, anticipating financial and enterprise risks, and balancing stewardship with opportunity. You bring a strategic mindset grounded in evidence, controls, and accountability, paired with the ability to translate complexity into clear insight for non‑financial leaders. You value integrity and transparency, and you take real pride in supporting teams that deliver high‑quality programming. Above all, you're motivated to contribute your expertise to an organization where financial leadership is inseparable from community impact and long‑term sustainability.

  • Experience leading audits, strengthening internal controls, and implementing practical financial policies.
  • Leads and develops teams through thoughtful delegation, coaching, and performance management.
