Job Description
This role is a senior-level Data Scientist position in the banking domain, focused on analyzing large datasets to support risk, regulatory, and business initiatives. The key requirement is strong banking expertise (credit risk, stress testing, regulatory reporting) combined with 10+ years of experience. Technically, the candidate must be highly proficient in SQL, have working knowledge of Python, and possess a solid foundation in statistics and predictive modelling. The role also requires the ability to translate business needs into data solutions, ensure data quality and compliance, and effectively communicate insights to stakeholders.
Typical Day In Role
- Analyze large, complex datasets from banking and capital markets domains to extract insights and identify trends
- Develop, validate, and deploy statistical models and machine learning solutions to support business initiatives
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate financial and regulatory requirements into analytical solutions
- Support risk, compliance, and regulatory reporting use cases (e.g., stress testing, credit risk)
- Perform data exploration, feature engineering, and model performance evaluation
- Design and optimize SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis
- Develop analytics workflows and models using Python and related libraries
- Communicate insights through dashboards, visualizations, and clear documentation
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with internal governance and regulatory standards
Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills
- 10+ years Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Analyst, with at least 5+ within Banking or Capital Calculations
- 5+ years proficiency in SQL for complex data querying and performance optimization
- 2+ years hands-on experience with Python (basic coding knowledge)
- Experience working with large structured and unstructured datasets
- Solid grounding in statistics, data analysis, and predictive modelling
Nice-To-Have Skills
- Strong understanding of financial products, markets, and industry data
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and reporting
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Basic understanding of LLMs, AI tools e.g. CoPilot
