About The Role

Our firm is partnering with a global leader in hearing health and medical technology to identify a Controller, Retail Finance. This organization operates a large-scale, multi-national retail footprint and is known for innovation, strong growth, and complex accounting needs across U.S. and international markets.

This role serves as the senior controllership leader for the retail business, with full ownership of financial close, reporting, controls, and technical accounting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who can independently lead a sophisticated retail operation while partnering closely with corporate finance, business leadership, and external auditors.

Job Description

The Controller, Retail Finance is responsible for the operational accounting and financial control of the retail segment. This individual will oversee global retail accounting activities, ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable international standards, and lead the retail accounting team. The role is accountable for safeguarding company assets, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting growth through scalable systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Lead global retail accounting activities including GL, AR, AP, inventory and cost accounting, fixed assets, CAPEX, cash flow, and revenue recognition
  • Own the monthly and annual close processes, including coordination of external audits
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reporting deliverables for corporate leadership
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP; provide technical accounting guidance and interpretations including consolidation accounting and new standard adoption
  • Support international operations and ensure alignment with applicable IFRS requirements
  • Lead revenue recognition activities under ASC 606
  • Oversee purchase accounting related to acquisitions, integrations, and divestitures
  • Prepare technical accounting memoranda and accounting policies
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and ensure compliance with corporate policies
  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, HR, and business leadership
  • Develop scalable accounting processes, including documentation, automation, and system enhancements
  • Lead and develop a high-performing retail accounting team; recruit, mentor, and coach talent
  • Support financial due diligence for potential acquisitions and strategic initiatives

This position is expected to be fully capable of standing on its own from a technical and operational perspective, independent of other controllership teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge under U.S. GAAP, including consolidations
  • Hands-on experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience with revenue recognition (ASC 606)
  • Experience supporting multi-entity or international operations
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • ERP system experience; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA certification (preferred but not required with equivalent experience)
  • Public accounting audit experience
  • Experience with purchase accounting and M&A support
  • Exposure to IFRS
  • Retail, healthcare, or consumer-facing industry experience
  • Oracle or similar enterprise financial systems experience
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
