About the Role

People Care is seeking an experienced Controller of Finance to lead the organization's accounting and financial operations. The Controller will serve as the senior financial steward of the company, overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and internal controls. This role is critical to ensuring the financial health and strategic direction of a mid-sized home care agency operating within complex regulatory environments.

Responsibilities

Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger

Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP

Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with senior leadership

Manage cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including Medicaid billing and LHCSA regulations

Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity

Coordinate and manage external audits, tax filings, and relationships with auditors and financial institutions

Oversee cost reporting and reimbursement processes specific to home care operations

Monitor key financial metrics and provide actionable analysis and recommendations to the executive team

Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement

Support strategic planning initiatives and provide financial modeling as needed

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred

Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or management role

Prior experience in home care, healthcare, or a similarly regulated industry highly preferred

Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls

Experience with Medicaid billing, cost reporting, and NYS LHCSA regulatory compliance is a strong plus

Proficiency with current financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar); strong Excel skills required

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop an accounting team

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

High integrity and commitment to accuracy and financial transparency

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $120,000 – $150,000 base per year, depending on experience and qualifications. This posting is in compliance with the New York City Pay Transparency Law.
