Job Purpose:

The Commercial Manager is responsible for establishing and expanding the Shipping Agency’s customer base by building and strengthening strategic relationships with key clients. This role leads the coordination of all commercial activities, leveraging a proven track record in shipping and logistics operations. The ideal candidate combines expertise in Maritime project management with strategic thinking and exceptional communication skills to drive business growth within the maritime industry.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strategy & Planning:

Develop and direct the implementation of the function strategy and plans ensuring alignment to Bahri’s strategy, vision, mission and corporate objectives. Ensure the provision of subject matter expertise and provide counsel to Bahri’s leadership on all related areas to facilitate the achievement of organizational and functional strategies.

  • Performance Management:

Manage the effective achievement of functional objectives through effective leadership and by setting of individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating team to maximize performance.

  • People & Leadership:

Lead the talent development initiatives for the assigned function, collaborating with discipline experts, and thereby ensure the availability of talent to fit organizational requirements

  • Budgeting & financial planning:

Oversee the consolidation of the function’s budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, and potential areas of cost reduction or performance improvement opportunities are capitalized.

  • Policies & Procedures:

Develop and lead the implementation of functional policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.

  • Operations:

Develop and implement commercial strategies and business plans to support growth and profitability. Identify sales opportunities, understand customer requirements, and propose tailored logistics and supply chain solutions. Lead bidding and tendering activities, evaluate proposals, negotiate contract terms, oversee vendor registration, and manage contracts and agency service agreements. Conduct profitability analysis, support pricing decisions, monitor commercial performance, and recommend improvements where needed.

  • Escalated Issues:

Review and address customer complaints and escalated issues in a timely manner to enhance customer satisfaction. Obtain and share customer feedback with relevant departments to support service improvement.

  • Relationship Management:

Build and maintain strong relationships with key customer accounts and external agents. Act as the main point of contact to ensure effective communication and support business development efforts.

  • Reporting:

Prepare and provide regular reports to management on commercial activities, services provided, issues identified, and solutions implemented.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 10–12 years of experience in the relevant field, including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
